I am also not the biggest shooter player myself, but I really enjoyed play-testing the old Quake. The controls were more washy and not as snappy as in newer shooters. This gives the player a faster feeling, which I really enjoyed and tried to capture.
As the "sound designer" in this team, I opend FL-Studio and then realized I have no idea what the hell I am doing. So I closed it and opend Audacity to make funny noises with my mouth and objects in my vicinity. :)
