I actually hadn't heard of Charley Parkhurst but that's a very cool coincidence and connection, thank you for telling me about it! Art truly imitates life....

Hi, sorry the game is giving you trouble, I have a couple questions if it's not too much. What features or shortcuts are you expecting to find that are missing? Are you just using keyboard? I can see from your comments on other games you're familiar with renpy accessibility but this isn't a renpy game, what could we add to make it similar? Thanks.
Hi there, the game has a screen reader function that can be turned on from the settings page or with the shortcut Shift Windows A to turn it on for the web version. The Windows version should also automatically detect if a screen reader is active. We have some things in mind for improving it but if you have any feedback on the accessibility we'll be happy to listen and investigate what we can do better.
He's written another post now with prices and examples you can see here: https://itch.io/blog/707872/lookouts-commissions-now-open
Hi there, sorry to hear you've had some trouble with the game. I've not seen a bug like that before so I can't say what might fix it. If you're playing in-browser I'd suggest playing in a different browser and seeing if that fixes anything. If that doesn't help, and you're willing/able, send an email to marbleclaws(at)gmail.com and we'll try work with you to find the problem.
Hi! Thanks for asking, I call it a jitter effect but I think it's most commonly known as a boil or boiling effect? Basic gist is that you randomly offset the UV sampling of the texture in the shader, using a noise texture to get the random offset and a time value to change the offset over time. Hope that helps explain!
Hi, thanks for reaching out, what you're doing seems really cool. Lookouts does indeed have screen reader / text to speech support for the game and its menus. I believe the whole game should be playable solely through keyboard, but whether that is actually possible or a good experience I'm not as sure of. There are some other accessibility options as well such as changing textbox and text colour for different contrasts. If you'd like to chat more or discuss the game's accessibility features please feel free to email us at marbleclaws (at) gmail dot com.
Hi there! The game has a screen reader feature that can read the text out loud. It should run automatically if it detects a screen reader already in use on the computer, and should enable even if on browser, but probably more reliable on Windows. Would it be helpful if there was a keyboard shortcut to enable the screen reader?
Understandable, thank you for the feedback! We know there is some lack of clarity on the mechanics - you can shoot the rolling dice as well as dice your opponent has already shot to claim them. There are some strategies to the shooting phase and speed is of the essence as well. We'll take this into account for the post-jam update!
Lookouts is a romance visual novel set in the old west, about two gay trans masc outlaws who run into each other while scouting out the same town.
It's been a huge project for me and my friend Col, and we're really proud of what we made!! We released a couple weeks ago and it's gotten a lot of good reception! We just released a patch to iron out some lingering bugs, I just wish I'd known about this forum when we released so I could've posted here sooner lol
It's a free game of about 5-6 hours playtime and 45,000 words, and there's an extra paid edition too if you enjoy the game and feel like supporting us!
Hey! Sorry about that, I had a little google and I think it's to do with the cabinet extractor GameMaker uses or something, I'm not very knowledgeable about compression methods. Seems like it can get weird on different versions of Windows and often doesn't play nice with antivirus. Hope the game works ok!
GameJolt recently got hit by a big DMCA takedown notice from Nintendo of America on over 500 fangames on the site. This is possibly because of GameJolt's use of ads which means creators could've been making profit from them, although this wasn't a given. Considering this action taken by Nintendo do you think itchio could be issued with a similar takedown notice for any fangames here, or is it safer due to its lack of ads and revenue being generated just through PWYW/being buried amongst original content?
