I found it!  I had to go through widows explorer to  appdata/local/Sand_Alpha.  Deleting the folder reset everything.  Thanks.

Nothing came up when I searched "%localappdata%/Sand_Alpha" or even just "Sand_Alpha".  Is it hidden?

It's been a few weeks since I played.   I'd like to just start over completely but I don't see an option to do so.

I really like the game but it seems the combat is a little tough at least in the begining.  I don't see any way to avoid being hit.  If you have to tank damage then it doesn't make much sense to be so weak on HP.   You can maybe kill one, maybe 2, opponants (I had a machete) before you have to run for your life and there could be a dozen on a map .   Idk if there is any way to heal in between encounters.  I've only gotten to play for a couple hours so far, but this makes early exploration and resource gathering a bit too difficult/tedious.

Anyway I'm really looking forward to seeing this one develop.  Good Luck!

Ladders are built on top of eachother but stairs are diagonal.   At least that's what makes sense.  But stairs don't seem to help much with climbing speed as far as I've noticed.   I hope that is tweeked later.

Odd Realm community · Created a new topic Fishing bug ?

I assigned someone to fish, equiped a fishing pole and designated a fishing spot.  He stands there to fish but doesn't catch anything.  So thinking it needed to be in deeper water I built a pier from the previous fishing spot to the center of the lake and designated new fishing spots.  But the guy won't walk out on the pier and use the new spots.  He keeps trying to fish at the old fishing spot on the shore.  I deleted the spot again even though there shouldn't be one there anymore since I built on top of it but he still won't move to the new fishing spot.  I also tried issuing a stop order.  He goes and does another task and comes back to the old fishing spot.   I'm not sure if this is a bug or if I did something wrong, but I got a guy fishing and he never catches any fish.

There was another thread about this and he said he's working on a steam release but there are too many bugs yet (although I haven't really come across any so far).  And it will cost more on steam because they take a 30% cut.  He didn't offer a time frame though.   I hope that he'll at least give us Itch purchasers a discount on "upgrading" to the Steam release when the time comes.   It's only $10 right now so I'm not going to cry about it.

I haven't gotten far in but what I've come up with so far is to plant your seeds first thing (through the build menu) and search the map for things to harvest to get extra seeds and food.  Then chop a hand full of trees.  You don't need to go overboard because they give you a lot of wood.  Also, cut some plants for plant fibers (any plant besides crops). I've been building a strip mall style building with 4 3x3 rooms, one each for kitchen, forge, workshop, and smithy.  If you designate the rooms the menu will show you a list of objects each needs.  You won't be able to kit the kitchen or smithy right away because you need to find iron and that means a LOT of mining.   You can build multi-story so I put a staircase outside and make the 2nd story a communal bedroom to start out with.  Press and hold left alt to order things to be build in the air (that's how you build a solid roof or 2nd story flooring.  If you have a bunch of dirt clods from mining out space, you can use them up as clay roof tiles. After a couple days a 2nd band of colonists join you with more food and seeds, so you'll need about 10 beds in total.

Keep an eye on your crops because they have to be manually harvested and replanted every time.   After getting the bedrooms set up I start focusing on mining.  You'll won't be able to cook or make armor until you find enough iron to make an anvil and cauldron.  (5 ore total).  But as soon as you get the work shop up you can make some stone/wood tools and weapons which will help your colonists work faster and be able to fight more effectively.  If you have a fisherman you have to make and equipe a fishing pole before they will fish.  It took me a while to figure out how to assign equipment.  There is an "inventory" tab in the colonists status menu and you can drag items to their appropriate slots.   When you get to mining you can see some sparkles that point to things of interest (either ore or once I found an underground compound with enemies so be careful).  Not all ore will sparkle I think but it doesn't seem to be worth exploritoy mining on levels where you don't see anything.  You can build ladders to make a mine shaft.   The ladders help them climb up and down faster and I think it also prevents them from falling to their death (not 100% sure on the last part).   Unfortunately that's all I really know right now.  I haven't gotten much into the combat other than once in a while someone will try to kidnap one of your villagers.

Oh and you might get chickens or cows etc that pop up and you can tame them.  The way taming works is a bit annoying.  You have to find and select the colonist that has the animal work task enabled.  Scroll on the map to the place where the animals are.  Press C or click on the tame animal command then RIGHT click on one of the animals, wait for the guy to come over and tame the animal, then  right click on the next animal.  They won't queue tasks if you click on more than one animal.  If you accidently left click instead, you will select the animal which means you have to go back to the village and find your villager again to reselect them.   Then make a fenced in enclosure for an animal pen (disignated in the room designation menu).  It doesn't seem like you need to feed them (although I think they need grass and not just dirt but that's unconfirmed).  Chickens will provide eggs occasionally, cows will leave milk, and squekers (?) don't seem to be tamable but you can kill them for meat.  I'm sure there are other animals but I haven't seen them yet.

Anyway, hope this helps some.

I agree!  It's a bit annoying that you can't place a blueprint on a tile that has an object on it.  They harvest the crops then the items are cluttering the field and you have to plant the next crop somewhere else.  Having a dedicated field marked out like the stockpile zones would help a lot.

I had to dig pretty deep to find any.  In my first colony I stumbled upon a group of people underground that wiped me out before I'd even dug down 10 levels so I never got to see any iron.  Without an anvil you can't make armor, so I really had no chance to survive.  I was a bit hesitant to dig very deep on my subsequent colonies because of that.  I'm enjoying the game and I see a lot of potential but the balance and progression curve definately needs tweeking.  I guess it's to be expected with early access.

^ I got too much stuff and no where to put it.   I would also suggest increasing the stack size.  5 dirt/stone per pile isn't feasable when you are forced to strip mine for resources.  OR maybe a trader to show up once in a while.   Or make the cabinets functional.  Anything to aid inventory management.

I need iron to make an anvil and cauldron but all I've found is copper and tin (mostly tin).   How deep do you have to dig to get iron?  Seems like something you should find fairly easily since you can't cook anything until you find some.

(1 edit)

So far I've encountered times when I try to cook a fish and it says I have a negative number of fish and also one of my bridge tiles are bugged and I can't walk over it.  I can walk on the "empty" tile below it though and can not build on the tile that the original bridge occupies or the "empty" tile below it.    Also, if I zoom the camera out and click on a building that produces a menu the camera resets (this may not be a bug but it is an extreme annoyance).
