It feels like such a complete game. I really liked the whole theming. The whimsical music and SFX all fit together nicely. The art is so charming. The gameplay was great, really loved having to juggle fighting the monsters and spraying the plants to keep them alive. I will say the boss felt less dangerous than the normal waves though because it was easy to top off the plants and then go back to spraying it down. Loved it!
What a delightful take on the theme! I really liked the art style too and the voice acting was pretty solid.
The only real minor issue I had was that the moving and cucumber selection used the same button and wouldn’t register properly sometimes. I kept trying to select one of the cucumbers but would end up moving the currently selected cucumber
The dungeon was surprisingly big. Got a good amount of combat in, was pretty fun! The sword combat was a bit disorienting because you could only slash in the direction you were facing where as the wand was mouse controlled. It made combat in the corridors difficult and often just lured them into more open spaces.
I never really figured out the inventory system but that could just be on me. I wasn’t sure if there was a way to access the recipes that were collected
The boss was pretty epic though, loved the coloring and movement patterns. Nice game!
I love the style of this game! The monochromatic theme with the dark symphony playing fit together really well. I liked the concept of bringing back the color in the world too. The animations of the player were fantastic too, the jumping and attacks were so fluid.
A couple of minor issues I ran into though. The spikes kinda seemed like grass so I kept accidentally jumping into them at first. Some of the hit boxes seemed tight too, I ended up just avoiding the spiders since fighting them felt awkward. The camera pan was off sometimes and I had to take a leap of faith into the unknown. I’m not sure if this was end of game, but I got back into the beginning room after getting the color back. I found a vine but it led to a balcony I couldn’t get onto. This is where I stopped playing.
These didn’t detract from the game though. I had a blast playing the game. Thanks for making it!
I really loved this game, movement was great! I immediately found a way to cheese it though. You can dig yourself into the bottom hole and keep jetting yourself into the wall and basically be invincible. I got to close to $60k before it lagged out and didn’t let me ink anymore. Some type of enemy that circles the wall to prevent this probably would prevent this. Great game! Also, the title is the absolute best
Fun little game, I like the idea of collecting resources and building up a base to stop the incoming corruption. I didn't end up finishing it though because the stone spawns were super slow and needed it for every tower. Boat loads of wood though, probably enough to build a raft to get off the damn island! Great work though, sprites look fantastic and everything ran smoothly.
The sound design is fantastic! I really enjoyed the concept. I was confused because I thought I had to keep repeating it but after the first few levels understood that it was just linear. I also wasn't quite sure where the sweet spot was for the timing. Really fun game though, was so satisfying to hit the beats.
Thanks for playing my game, glad you had fun! I have an inkling has to what level that might've crapped on your experience. Did it happen to be the level with the two purple cells? My second guess would be the purple cell trapped in the yellow cell jail. My goal was to spawn them close to add pressure to the player to get them moving but I think the timing is probably too tight so will try to tweak in the future.
I'm a simple person. I see number go up, I happy. I wasn't clear which attributes were impacting different parameters though. There were moments where I had no people spawning in at all. The camera pan also seemed quite random. It would pan left sporadically and there would be a crap ton of people over there to farm. There was also a minor glitch where the camera got stuck in one spot but was having a seizure. The UI was also somewhat hard to navigate as there wasn't any feedback. I also had to "dodge" the other upgrades in order to click the add button and it wasn't clear which ones I had already bought.
I liked the idea though about choosing your specific ideology. It was definitely fun seeing the amount of people spawning in explode (and with no lag). Would have loved to see the actors spreading the gospel on the screen. Really cool idle/cookie clicker type game.
Yeah, I hit them with the particles and they start emitting. Although I realized I might just be dying faster than I anticipate because sometimes my clicks don't register to deactivate the fire. It might be that there isn't enough time for the monsters to die. I'm not sure if I'm missing it, but I think a way to regenerate the light for the fire would be awesome too. Despite the bugs, it was a fun challenging game. Was constantly thinking of the trade offs of whether to break the barriers. Incentivized me to explore more to see if there was a way around without using up the precious light. The game was still a good fun despite the bugs. I can see there being a lot more to explore with this mechanic
I jumped right into the game and completely missed the BIG BOLD text right underneath...completely my fault. I did exactly what your friends did haha.
Wow! I really enjoyed spreading the corruption though reminds me of the Zerg creep spread in Starcraft. Probably would have been harder to implement but I think a tutorial level would have helped the instructions sink into my brain more. I tried to remember all the directions being given but it didn't quite stick once the first level started. The additional buttons over the minion units though were super helpful.
The music sets the atmosphere really well. The art is absolutely fantastic, loved all the sprites.
The game felt like a cross between a puzzle and RTS game. It felt like I would run out of resources and that I had "failed the puzzle". The moments when a chicken would just waddle onto the edge of my creep and save me though were so great.
The game loop was fun! I almost feel like I would have enjoyed seeing the creep continuing to grow and "discovering" the other life instead of resetting everything and having them introduced per level as a different puzzle mechanic. I realize that's mostly personal preference though :P
Regardless, really liked the game and felt super polished! Would have never guessed this was your first game jam.
I really like the concept of having to beat a bunch of mini games with time pressure as they keep popping up. The way the windows move around to dodge you is also pretty funny and adds challenge. However, I couldn't figure out how to interact with most of the mini games. I got my mouse in the yellow circle multiple times but nothing seemed to happen even after clicking around. The win condition was also somewhat confusing on some of them and others I couldn't figure out how to interact with at all.
Cool little shooter game, laser was pretty satisfying to blast the enemies with. I almost always exclusively saved up just to use it! The rooms were quite big though and I found there was a lot of down time traversing. The screen crop is a little off to so had to wander around a bit to find the exit and couldn't see where my HP or MP meter was at. The game was also a bit laggy at times.
A turn-based splatoon type game is interesting. The mechanics themselves took some time to figure out though. The character movement options didn't de-select when going to another player and they started overlapping. I wasn't also sure when I had run out of options for each particular player (ie when I could move/capture). I also never quite figured out how to attack the opposing characters. I assumed that there were more options for each player though since the description mentions that the turn should end automatically when I ran out of options. The capture colors were also the same so didn't know which tiles were captured by which player.
Love the merry-go-round art. Splattering the board was also pretty satisfying. I can also tell you put effort into all the little mechanics and if you had more time I could see this being pretty fun, especially if you were able to add some NPC enemies for single player folks. Great work and really happy that you still submitted the concept!
Interesting concept of having to damage yourself to remove obstacles. I'm not sure if this is a bug but I found that lighting myself would also light the enemies but didn't seem to damage them. Also when I died at times, I would "die" but the game wouldn't register it so I'd be soft locked on the level unable to move the character and the music muted.
I love the art style of the game! Fight mechanic was interesting but took me a little bit to figure out that I needed to use my mouse to complete the mini game so kept dying to the first monster initially. Cool that there are different types of dungeons too. Sometimes the fights felt a bit unfair because you would just get bad rolls but there wasn't any punishment either for dying other than restarting the fight so not too much of an issue. Would be cool to see some type of disadvantaged mini game were you had a chance of saving yourself from the hit too. Small bugs like you mentioned but didn't find any that detracted from the game.
