Thanks for the feedback and bug report!  I'll stop 2 novas from merging if the gameover sequence has started in an upcoming version.

Yeah, I actually had the game that way for a while, but the main problem at the time: You just click ahead of your car's path like crazy and it had no problem getting through.  I never explored bringing back lane changes after it was all working well, but probably should have.

Great concept with a lot of potential for a full version.

Don't normally comment, but just wanted to say congrats on an amazing submission.  Great concept and execution!  Best thing I've played in the jam (played about 30 games so far).

I created a Steam news post for my main project (Instruments of Destruction) that mentions Wreckless if you want to read a little more about how it came to be:

The particle system is using Unity 2019's default particle system, though with some simple custom shaders from a previous game.  I wasted a few hours trying to use a different GPU-powered system, but Unity's particle system actually seems well-suited to Game Jams and I wish I'd realized that sooner.  So yes, I like particles :)

Thanks, and sorry about the screen shake being too strong.  I meant to add an option to the menu in the last submission, but just straight forgot.

Thanks (I think)!  You should check out my other games (search Radiangames).  I worked about 38 of the 48 hours during the Jam.  Happy to release the source (on GitHub) if there's demand.

(1 edit)

This is Luke Schneider of Radiangames.  This is my first game that I'm posting to itch.io, but I've made over 20 games solo for various platforms.  Here's the page for the Rhythm Storm-Alpha Demo.

This is the announce trailer, while a longer gameplay-only trailer is on the game page.

It uses vector graphics (no textures except screen grabs in post-processing) and GPU-accelerated particles, and takes lots of inspiration from both my previous games and modern arena survival shooters.  Your vehicle aims and fires automatically, while you control movement and 2 special abilities.  Everything else in the world moves and dances to the beat (including enemies).

The game looks best on a 1440p 120hz (or better) monitor, but 1080p60 is still pretty nice too.

The full game will be available on Steam and consoles in Q4 2023.
