Sure thing. You may get in touch with me in the jam's discord (same username as here) and send me a dm. I'll gladly send you my notes on the combat system over there.

The scope of the game is impressive for the time allotted in the jam. I especially like the quests.

I appreciate the ambition of this project, tempered by practical compromises that make the current version of the game worthwhile. It's good at evoking nostalgia and the classic gameplay supports this aesthetic.

This game is successful at creating a disturbing story, and the game mechanics support these dark vibes. I think someone who really gets into this game would come out with deep impressions.

I like the direction this is going. Great work.

In the devlog, you don't owe anyone an explanation for why you're making an RPG instead of a horror game. It's even better for your growth as a developer to work in multiple genres.

In some ways, this is a really polished experience.

Unfortunately there were some showstopper bugs where RPG Maker couldn't load resources. So I couldn't make it past the town. I liked the parts that I did get to see, though! I hope the showstopper will be fixed in a future update because the game deserves it.

I really like the vaporwave direction for the audio & visuals. Cinematics and voiceovers give it an extra level of polish. Great work.

Nice overall atmosphere & aesthetic. Great job getting Unreal to make a 2D sidescroller.

Nice story about intimacy & compassion. Keep it up.

Great job! Nice skill progression curve that kept it engaging. Not to mention the cute theme that was supported by the audio and visuals.

This is a neat concept. I'll go ahead and list some pros and cons as well.

Pros...

  • I haven't played a game quite like this. The way you pull in surrounding items ties the overworld and battles together in a nice way.
  • There's a nice amount of variety right from the beginning. I don't feel like I'm being drip fed new monsters or mechanics.
  • Even though there's several systems I'm unfamiliar with, I never felt frustrated.

Cons...

  • I had a hard time losing, even when I was trying to.
  • I know there was a word limit, but item descriptions would have been nice. Most other things I was able to figure out without reading the tutorial.
  • I wish there were some music or sound effects.

I found this one nice and relaxing to play.

I didn't know either. Thanks for mentioning it.

Bummer, looks like another installation's needed for those who don't have RPG Maker VX Ace. Here's where it can be found:
