Wow this essay had me on the edge of my seat from start to finish lol

It's so random having the game analyzed on such a deep level but I'm glad you liked it 🫡 (unless you are trolling, in which case, congrats on your commitment to the art)

I loved playing Spore back when it came out, so this one felt pretty nostalgic for me. Overall, great job for a first finished game and game jam, and a great use of the theme! Its a long road ahead

In theory, giving a hamster a shotgun is a terrible idea, but after playing this game, I'm starting to consider it..

Seriously though, I had a lot of fun and this is a great example of how a game doesn't need to be super complex to be fun and addicting! For a first game, you both did a really great job!

Love the minimalistic art style and I've never seen something like this done for a game jam so I'm impressed! Great job :)

Side note: I love that you can stack the boats lol

Game Title: Debug or Die https://itch.io/jam/my-first-game-jam-summer-2023/rate/2206071

Pitch/Information: A 3d wave based shooter where you play as a programmer who enters the virtual world to fight enemy bugs! End the cycle or continue the loop?

I'd like feedback on: Your experience with anything in the game! (visuals, gameplay, audio, music, balancing, etc.) I had to balance all of the waves in the last half an hour so I'm curious  whether or not people are able to beat it :)

Thanks! I definitely tried to make it more open ended in case I ever wanted to pursue more work on it

After some testing, I'm realizing the game could be a bit too difficult in the later waves, so I thought it may be good to put some tips and a bit of a disclaimer!

- You can interact with most of the objects in the main menu screen

- Keep moving, but make sure you keep track of the obstacles around you so you don't get cornered

- Use the obstacles to your advantage

- Vending Machines cost 0 if you have no ammo and not enough money

- There is an ending to the game after Wave 9

Let me know if you are able to beat it! :)

Most competitive game of ping pong I've ever played with a dog (curse you winston). 10/10

This is the first game I have played out of the submissions and I liked it! Nice atmosphere and it was easy to digest, Well done

Cool mechanics and I love that you were able to build off your entries from past years! Well done! I am also partial to cats so I may be slightly biased...

funny that you asked, the main ball is named lil golfy somewhere on a planning page but unfortunately it didn't make the cut into the final build.. if you're interested, I will write and publish an 1000 page encyclopedia detailing the history of lil golfy and his friends, along with the trials and tribulations they faced on their journey towards their inevitable fate on the golf course

I had a fun time with this one! I was very determined to beat it because losing only motivated me to try harder.. lots of simple, yet effective game design in here that could definitely be fleshed out if you wanted to

lol well I'm glad you liked it, and I totally agree on the ball turning, I tried to find a middle ground but it ended up being so slow in the final build

Thanks! The thought of doing a timer and some of score-keeping did come to mind but I totally ran out of time lol

I will never see Snake the same way.. Very clever demonstration of the theme and the fact that it works with the title too, great work! I was more terrified than I was expecting

Well this isn't super mario, so I see this as an overall win

I think the Rube Goldberg machine meets golf idea is really clever and I had a fun time optimizing my layouts with the different props to get a hole in one. Well done!
