I've revisited the game, again, and it still feels as aggravating as ever... Sadly, this is evidently also reflected in the average score Pocket Rain Files has on here.
The "like-meter" would be a much more satisfying game mechanic, if there was a pop up telling you, you made the right choice, like in other FVN, so you don't have to repeatedly check the character profiles.
I don't like how the MC acts like a minor far more than once, even though his character profile assumes he's smart. At the very least he can be witty and stand up for himself very few times throughout. He's also constantly called "kid" even by the love interests. The trope of the incapable protagonist is old, and I'm mostly done with it. Worse still is his extremely irritating "occasional bloodloss" that ALWAYS happens when it's about to get spicy. Nosebleeds are already completely unnecessary in anime, so why is it a thing at all? It's seriously terrible writing, because it makes the reader uncomfortable.
So far there's only drama and teasing and forced romance. Some scenes are really dragged out, too. Moreover, several scenes just happen without follow up and some days are too short. The writing isn't particularly amateurish, yet sloppy.
Half of the sprites are great while the other half looks weird and/or has colorful hair, including the protagonist. I'm not a fan of such hair on furries whatsoever. It looks strange but it can be done well, sometimes. What I personally like are the realistic dick sizes, you don't get these too often.
On top of that, characters appear somewhat, I don't know, extreme or unhinged perhaps. Feels like there's not much subtlety to their characterization. This is most prominently shown in Krol, who just punches the MC out of nowhere. Or Jack screaming and threatening you, then caring for and... bathing you next.... As well as the teacher kissing Emeka without consent. It was the final nail in the coffin that I won't be changing the rating any time soon.
I don't really mind that there's no routes. However... you're basically forced to interact with every single one of them, forcing you into something resembling a love sextuple??
The protagonist is still as annoying as ever, while telling the reader he wants to better himself. Sure, it's not been too long, but he's too insufferable for my taste. Dialogues involving him are usually very awkward. Playing as him is not worth the expected payoff in my mind.
Lastly... you can't skip any text you haven't seen before, at least on Android. I can only assume this is intentional. But first off, I'm usually not playing FVN for the story but rather the romance. I'm reading books for their world building and character development instead (Shadow Slave for instance, which benefits from it's length. Shadow Slave has an immature and impulsive protagonist, too, but he has to adapt and change so he can survive. Right now, he's almost unrecognizable from how he used to be). Giving the player the option to skip puts into their hands the power of how they want to play. I think I also had to reinstall the game because updating wasn't working, loosing all progress in the process. Most importantly though, playing main characters such as Emeka is utterly, utterly painful. It really ruins what could otherwise be a decent experience.
In conclusion: Although Pocket Rain Files has potential thanks to the somewhat convoluted plot and drama, a rewrite and some sprite rework are heavily advised. Removing the awkwardness or childishness even out of many moments, such as Emeka literally pissing himself (WHY?? I didn't sign up for this!), would be a tremendous relief.
