Thank you very much.  I think I get it now.

Are we allowed to use negative boolean operations like, for instance, creating a half-sphere by subtracting a parallelepiped from it or creating a parallelepiped with a cut corner by subtracting another parallelepiped from it, both cases using up 2 shapes towards the shape count? Here, you mention cutting shapes is allowed as long as they are merged together, so could negative boolean operations possibly be allowed as long as they do not split the shape into multiple (the result is still connected)?

That clears it up. Thank you very much!

Is there any limit to the number of shapes per object, like there is for the sprites? Also, does it need to be exactly cubes and spheres? Is it allowed to stretch the cubes into parallelepipeds and use elongated spheres, for instance?

Also, that's a very good idea. I really hope you can make and upload it, even if not for the jam.

So, you are crafting programs out of unusual slow parts and must also not make it too bad or the lab people might discover. That fits the theme perfectly, actually.

Watch the Twich stream. It's here.

Good luck! I really recommend the Game Maker's Toolkit and Brackeys YouTube channels. Brackeys is mainly about Unity, but unfortunately he has stopped making videos, and GMTK is about gamedev in general. This is a very important video by GMTK, at least for me. I am looking forward to seeing your work in this jam!
