Hey, thanks as always for your detailed reviews and feedback, it's genuinely really helpful in gaining insight into how people are using the libraries, what expectations are and where I might be able to improve with updates and new content!

Because you've bought a bunch of libraries and provided so many reviews/useful feedback I'd like to give you a new sci-fi bundle I released on shapeforms.com recently! Email me at hello@shapeforms.com if you like! :D

Some thoughts on the negatives listed:

If you're reading this wondering whether this pack is worth $60: It's hard to say.

It's true it's the highest-priced of my libraries to date, but not without reason: it reflects the time and effort put in (there are a handful of individual sounds in the library that took full days each to design), the value and versatility on offer, and was set after evaluating about a dozen competitors' products of similar quality, where I found the average price per sound was 13c (which if applied to this library would make it about $120 – so $60 I feel is actually very reasonable value). I'm definitely open to feedback on price though; I want to meet or exceed expectations, and want people to be truly happy with their purchase and ultimately enjoy using the assets!

* Not truly suitable for 'individual' sound use.

As you say the main draw of the library is in the versatility and variety found in layering multiple sounds. It's true not all sounds will stand alone as well as others but this is partly by design to allow 'room' for multiple layers at once without cluttering the spectrum and turning into noise. I tried to provide a mix of simple through to complex sounds in each category.

* Some sounds are a bit too 'wet'.

This is interesting feedback as generally I worry my sounds are too dry (which I do so people can set the sounds into any space with reverb etc.) Again though it's possible I've tried to include a mix from quite dry to a bit wet for variety in options.

* I was hoping for a more "cohesive" feeling between the sounds.
For example I expected a set of x sounds for each 'sound profile':
"Alien Ship (Synthy pulsy waves): Take Off / Landing / Engine Loop" "Combustion Ship (think Jet Engine): Take Off / Landing / Engine Loop"

Pre-designed sound sets is something I've been wanting to add to this and other libraries, I think it would be good to include to fully round it out. What I didn't want to do though is be entirely prescriptive in the design of the library, since modularity and layering gives people more freedom and uniqueness in results (at the expense perhaps of a bit more trial and error). I'll aim to add some sound sets in a future update (but this may be a very long term goal)

* Boosts is all right, but could've used some more diverse recharging loops and has some 'odd' one shots that feel out of place.

Boosts was a hard one to communicate the idea behind (since there are also 'thruster' sounds). Boosts I imagined being like boost/warp pads/gates in games like Wipeout, while thrusters are the vehicles' own propulsion. Though of course any sound can be used for any purpose if it fits! It's true there aren't a ton of charge loops either, I'll look to include more in an update.

* Some of the sounds edge a bit too close to being a basic sound shape + LFO.

This was actually a later addition to the library realising I only had quite complex, heavily 'designed' sounds in there – I had been playing Ratchet & Clank and noticed their floating robot/vehicle sounds were actually very simple/minimal, so I see the addition of these sorts of sounds as a plus not a negative: more options to suit a wider range of use cases.

Impacts.
...no "groaning metal" sounds, no big heavy bombastic metal crashes... could've provided some more heavy / deep metal clangs & clashes, screeching noises and groaning metal.

Groaning metal and massive crashes was something I wanted to include and attempted some designs for but realised ultimately I just didn't have the appropriate source recordings to really sell the effect well. These LARGE sounds are often best sourced from real world industrial-sized machinery and the like and as a solo indie sound recordist/designer I just don't have the clout/access that AAA studio sound design teams have. However! With some clever ultrasonic recordings of metal clashing I can probably produce something useful – this will be another long term goal since I'll need to gather new source material to record.

Again, very useful insights into how the library is being used/perceived, and I hope eventually to update it and further round it out!

I'll consider how to rephrase the sentence to add clarity. I'd been considering adding a few more sounds to the pack so this might be a good time for an update!

Hey, thanks for your post and apologies for any confusion – the sentence refers to not being able to share the sound library or its files in isolation, so use  of the sounds when embedded in games, video etc. is fine (encouraged, even!)

Cheers :D

Thanks for taking the time to write an overview/review and provide feedback, I genuinely appreciate it! It's good, actionable feedback, giving me something concrete to work towards.

Different 'brightness' of sounds is one area I'd like to expand upon, though for now they do lean a little brighter like you say to provide the most flexibility. Heavy hammers would be a nice addition for sure! I'm hopeful I'll be able to source and record more material eventually, and for some suggestions I may not need new recordings at all – in the meantime though I hope the library still proves quite useful (and fun to use!) for bread and butter slashy sounds.

Thanks for commenting, glad you found the sounds useful!

Hey! I am open to doing custom work – get in touch through hello@shapeforms.com and we can discuss details/options!

You're right, there aren't any sounds where the disk reader is powered on and loading disk content – the disk drive was an old Amiga device that pre-dates USB so I wasn't able to plug it in and power it up. This is a good suggestion though. I do have hard disk reading sounds in the Future UI library but the character would probably be a little different.

Can't believe it's been 3 years already! It's been a pretty disrupted few years, so progress on other libraries has definitely been slower than I'd anticipated. The melee pack is further along than bow & arrow – I'd love to release both eventually. I've been considering doing smaller pre-release versions of libraries at a discount so people could access assets sooner, with additional content added as free updates. This'd help me gauge interest in different libraries and help support further development, but there may be downsides to going about it this way – I'll have to have a think!

Hey, awesome, I just had a play! One thing I liked was the fact that the level boundaries weren't perfect circles or square shapes, felt nice and organic and suited the sci fi theme. Glad you're getting good use out of the sounds and thanks for the credit!

Thanks! I'm glad you found the sounds useful :D Nice work releasing the game – I like the serene environment and ambience!

I don't have any pencil on paper sounds at the moment unfortunately, but it's something I've wanted to record for a while – I'll keep this in mind for a future asset pack!

No worries! Glad you like the sounds :D

I finally got a chance to play your game! I enjoyed the overall style and the dash-jump move, and the music was neat too. It was cool seeing how you used the sounds from this and other packs! Nice work!

Hey, I'm really glad you like the assets!
I'm away from my PC/Windows at the moment but I'll check out your game as soon as I can – congrats on releasing it!

Hey, thanks for your question! Unfortunately the library doesn't contain any close combat/melee sounds at the moment (though I'd like to add some in a future update). There are a number of sustained laser beam sounds though, and a few laser guns.

Thanks for the kind words :) I'm really glad you found the sounds inspiring, hope you enjoy using them!

Happy to help! Overtoasted has such a charming concept and style, nice work!

Thanks for the kind words, hope you enjoy using the sounds!

Happy you like the pack and found it useful!

Congrats on the Lv.99 jam – Yoga breathing meets bullet hell shooter is quite a fun and unique concept!

Happy to help – hope you have fun with the sounds!

Congrats on releasing your game! I like how you've implemented the interface sounds in it :) The title and transition effects are cool, too.

To answer your question – the free sounds pack contains a small selection of sounds (about 150) from a series of larger sound libraries (over 4,000 sounds total so far)

The itch.io license is the same as the one covering products on the Shapeforms site, see the license info on the FAQ page.

The Unity Asset store version is covered by Unity's own license, but I believe it's fairly similar.

Hey, thanks for your question – the itch.io and Unity Store packages are the same.

Congrats on releasing Next and thanks for the credit – unfortunately I don't have a windows machine at the moment to check it out but I dig the style!

Hope you enjoy the sounds!

You're welcome – thanks for the credit & link in Lighten Up!

Thanks, glad you like them!

That's a good question, and something I hadn't considered earlier. I'd say it would fall under redistribution unfortunately. There may be a solution though, if not being able to include them in the repo proves an issue – feel free to get in touch through hello at shapeforms.com and I'd be happy to discuss.

No worries! Hope you find them useful :)

Happy you found them useful! Nice work on Space Menace too, it looks really good – I like the aesthetic and laser/projectile effects.

That's a good idea, I've added a preview track to the devlog, thanks :)

Hey everyone, after starting work on Future UI over a year ago, and after a pretty challenging 12 months of life getting in the way of progress, it's finally out!

The second in a series of Sci Fi sound libraries, I had a lot of fun exploring different techniques to create the library's 800+ sounds.

It's useful for essential interactions (buttons, navigation sounds, errors and alerts, etc) and building an atmosphere around them (spaceship and computer room ambiences, holographic effects, ominous alarms, data scramble and text animation loops and more!)

I wanted to provide a range of sounds from worn computer terminals (the sort of thing you might find in Blade Runner) to bright holographic chimes and all things between. I'm already pretty excited about designing new sounds for the first update.

I also enjoyed working up some fake UI visuals for the trailer, both to test and refine sounds from the library and to explore different UI styles – I'm considering developing a full range of UI art asset packs sometime in the future. Here are some loose style exploration mocks, some of which made it into the trailer!

Future UI
is on intro sale until the end of August – hope you have fun with it if you decide to pick it up! I've also added a few sounds from the library to the free sound fx pack on my itch.io page.

All the best,
Rich, Shapeforms Audio

Thanks for the kind words! All the best with your first game :D

Thanks so much! :D

You're welcome, hope you have fun with the sounds!

Thanks for the kind words :D

No worries, glad you found it useful! Geo Break is good fun, especially once you get into a flow – love the visual effects and bouncy animation in time with the music!

Thanks for thinking of getting the full SFX pack! The main difference between itch.io and my site at the moment is some assets are available in additional higher quality formats on my site (though they're mostly only valuable when pitching sounds down dramatically). The bundle on my site also includes Future UI when it's out, while the current itch.io sale bundle doesn't, but I will be releasing Future UI on itch.io, too! So future itch.io sale bundles will include it, and the price will likely be a little cheaper but I don't run sales as often. Hope that helps!

Thanks for the credit, appreciate it :) Space Landing Master is quite addictive and challenging!

Olá, que bom que você achou os sons úteis! Obrigado por incluir um crédito no Ploc - tudo de bom com o jogo quando ele for lançado!

Hey, thanks for taking the time to post such a thoughtful comment, I'm really glad you found them useful!
