Hi! I'd love to help with this.

My name's Matt and I'm a British translator, interpreter and copywriter. I mainly specialize in translating games from Spanish and Portuguese into English, but I also help write content in English.

Either way, part of my job is coming up with creative ways to express what a game developer wants to convey in a way that engages the target audience of a particular culture or language.

While I have worked on other games before, I can't disclose my portfolio at this moment as the games aren't yet released. I do, however, have a history of writing articles for industry magazines, but that's not the kind of text you're after, I'm sure XD

Who I am:

I'm Matt, I'm 26, British, and, in addition to being a lifelong gamer, I'm a freelance translator, interpreter and founder of two localization businesses, one of which, Sidequest Translations, specializes in videogame localization.

What I do:

At the moment, I translate from Spanish and Portuguese into English (either UK or US), though I plan to expand this in the future. Up until a recent gaming project I worked on, I mainly specialized in marketing translation. As someone who spends a good portion of their time gaming, which I've done since I was little, and who understands the mentality that comes with that, I've wanted to establish a new business, focused exclusively on videogame translation, for some time now. This is the reason that my second business, Sidequest Translations, now exists.

What I'm offering:

As a new branch of my main translation business, and although I've already completed a game localization project (which I can't yet announce with all the details), I'd like increase my portfolio by offering pro-bono localization for anyone on this site that needs their game, produced in Spanish or Portuguese, localized into English.

I'm also offering revision of English text and copywriting of new English text for developers who already have their game in English, but would like a second pair of eyes to look at and polish up their text, or add new text that fits the rest of their theme according to a brief. Lastly, as someone who lived in Spain, frequently visits, studied its history intensely and who was basically adopted by a family there as a second family I am very well versed in Spanish culture and the cultures of Iberia in general. I am happy to provide consulting relating to Spanish history, Spanish culture, Spanish politics etc.

Of course, this isn't just to boost my business. I have a genuine passion for videogames and for helping people produce high quality ones that resonate well with their target audiences. All too often people are quick to bash a game for spelling mistakes and language that doesn't quite flow as well as it could. It's a real shame when a game's reputation takes a hit because of this when the focus should be the gameplay itself.

What I'm asking for in exchange:

No money, just permission to post my involvement in the game in my portfolio and on relevant social media.

• BA in Spanish with Accelerated Portuguese (First Class Honours)
• MA in Translation and Interpreting (Distinction)
• Lived in Spain with native family
• Active in the industry since 2017
• Over 500,000 words translated since I began operations
