Thanks! I made the shadow tentacle, it uses a Bezier curve with randomized middle anchor positions, and spawns 20 particle effect instances along the curve to make the effect. That way, only the anchors themselves need to be moved for the attack via scripting. Arthur made most of the other effects like the fog and screen shake.

Thanks for playing! Your commentary was funny too, haha. The hitboxes for the zombies are a bit funky and for that zombie specifically you can get stuck on its head because the roof is too low. We'll try and fix that. Also, now that you suggested it, I think we'll let the rifle be full-auto!
If you're interested we plan to update the game sometime after the game jam we made it for is over. I can let you know when that is released, if you like.
Thanks! The game is fairly easy if you know how to conserve ammo and aren't caught off guard by the zombies, but I've also seen a lot of less experienced people have played it and had some trouble. I think we will ramp up the difficulty in the later areas once we add more. Also, I checked out your game and rated and commented!
Thank you! We wanted to make it dark enough to where zombies could sneak up on you if you weren't careful, adding a lot of use to the flare gun and the flash when you fire the other guns. We also tried to capture the open-ended vertical level design of games like Hollow Knight and the Ori series.
The bugged wall was one thing that slipped through the cracks in the game jam build, but it'll be fixed in the next version after the jam is over!
Thanks! Yes, headshots do extra damage, when you land a headshot it does a "burst" particle effect that is noticeably different if you know what it looks like. However, a lot of people didn't notice it so I think we'll add more ways to tell that you landed a headshot, such as a different sound or bigger particle effect, or even the zombies being staggered when you land a headshot.
Interesting main concept! I found it a bit frustrating, but you can get far if you’re persistent enough. I though running out of energy was a bit of an unfun mechanic though, and I thought the level design could be a bit more lenient near the beginning. If possible, maybe also add a guiding line that will show the beginning trajectory of your shot?
Cool game! I liked experimenting with the different types of body parts and the different behaviors and stats! I do think it would be a bit more fun if you had more to do than just making new "friends", maybe some more objectives that you can find and defend? This reminds me a lot of a different game for the jam, Scrapped, and the two are very similar, in that game however you are always moving around to try to complete the objectives to get more loot so you can survive longer. I also think in this game you could afford to make it harder and have the enemies spawn from both sides.

As a first jam submission and as (I'm assuming) a younger developer, it's not bad! I also had the issue of the shield not working, but with more abilities, levels, sounds, and polish, I could see this being a cool game with a good message. Also, be sure to add a way to skip dialogue after already reading it once, as others have suggested. Having to wait was a bit annoying.

I really liked the vibe and aesthetic of the game! Great graphics and music too. Also a big fan of the glowstick lighting system. However, I think the gameplay could use a bit more spicing up, since it seemed like all you really needed to do was find and turn on the levers. I also didn't ever really run into any of the enemies until the end because they didn't follow me into the hallways. I think it could be cool if you needed to hide from or distract them and they were more aggressive to compensate.
Great art! Also, I really like the main mechanic, I think it has a lot of potential. I did have some issues with figuring out what I could interact with at first. Maybe some color outline that's consistent across all interactable objects? Also, second level I didn't realize I could jump on the bookcases, maybe making the outline on them darker so they stand out more could work.
Great game with amazing art! Played and rated.
