I like how story ties death to every step of her journey the raven, the harlequin dressed like death, the crier all leading to the graveyard. Did they die? Entering the mausoleum and taking a ferry seem like them dying.

The story's subtlety blew me away. Those little details all added up. Like, cobalt-60 being used in dirty nuclear bombs, all those rats getting cancer from radiation, and those gemstones glowing green from it. Those tiny touches made the whole thing come alive without needing a ton of words.
