So, the permission here really lies with the original creator Freya (communistsister on itch). However, tweaks to any version of Videotome are fine for any game you make with the engine. It's good practice to mention any tweaks made on you game page, just to help curb any "I saw [x] done in [y]'s game, how do I do that?" comments me or Freya might get.

If you'd like to publish just the engine with your tweaks as a fork, with the intent for other devs to make their own stuff with that fork, you'll need to speak to Freya as I can't extend permission on her behalf.

In regards to the fatphobia, this was an intentional exploration of a facet of L's character and not a reflection of my actual views on fat people. The postmortem goes deeper into this:

This was pulling on a common thread for transmascs that being skinny is an inherent trait to passing; the rassaku.net guide being the most obvious signpost of this [...] L is a skinny twink who benefits from societal fatphobia. That's a key part of his character and his relation to being trans. To remove that would be pretending a huge issue within online transmasculine spaces does not exist.

Why is fatphobia one that bubbles to the surface against everything else L thinks? Because it's a conversation that's starting to get louder, and one in current Tumblr contention, and the person he deems the villain in this story is fat. He refuses to confront it fully, knowing subconsciously how much this line benefits him, with it constantly staring him down with the knowing that he shouldn't think it. At the very least, he decides to be polite enough to never say it to someone's face.

It's been a point of contention with its inclusion, but I sincerely believe that you cannot have a discussion of the less-than-savoury aspects of the transmasculine experience without including it. Given who L is and the benefits he gets from not uprooting those beliefs, even if he knows they are harmful, it would be remiss for me to not bring light to it as a core part of his (and many others') experience.

ah, that's not a bug. VT:S requires you to keep the SFX_TEXT file since it's always used for progression. i'll probably include a note on that in the guide in the next update and break the name out into the config

alright that looks like a new one i can't replicate, if you're able to throw me over the project when you're able to i can check out what situation causes that to happen

Thanks for catching these! I've fixed these in the 1.2.1 update, along with some fixes for transparent videos.

4 was me writing the guide wrong, no brackets is the intended syntax.

2 is less a bug and more how regex reads each line. You could put a tag anywhere on a line and it would be picked up; VT just nukes anything that appears before the starting hyphen. For now, VT just puts faith on the dev to not put tags after the hyphen, and also assumes the chances of needing to actually write something with the exact syntax of a tag in the narrative are zero. There are fixes for this, but it would need a complete rewrite of VT's original tag system, and ultimately the time sink vs. benefit of this is pretty low.

I didn't fully flesh out how long these two have been at it but "well more than several years" was the idea. I really like your take on this game actually taking place over several years, too. I saw it as taking place sequentially day-by-day, but given that it loops forever, it very well could take place over several years, which ties the two together quite nicely.

Insanity is more a theme of this as percieved insanity, given that these two are, effectively, in their own mini-community entirely divorced from a human one, but still living parallel to it. Now they're trying to navigate and rediscover how to live knowing they can never die, which definitely looks like insanity to "normal" people, but makes entire logical sense to themselves.

This is part of an universe of games all about being granted immortality and how people handle it, which i'm hoping to focus on more heavily in the future: https://itch.io/c/4016065/immortal-starstreaker. Most of this game came about from wanting to write an immortal who actually liked immortality, compared to many of the others I'd done who absolutely do not.

The whole lore behind Immortals themselves is something I've put a lot of time and effort into behind the scenes, it being my precious little baby project I'm putting far too much love into. The main project of it is supposed to be No Saints Go to Heaven, which right now has no where near enough pre-production done to be in a state to make a full game, which I'm (very) slowly chipping away at. Fortunately, there's enough there on Immortals as an idea opposed to the concrete world of NSGtH that I'm able to make these small relatively contained "spinoffs", before there's any actual thing to spin off from.

As for COH itself, it's far less developed than the main lore it came from, but there's enough there that I've been turning it over on where these guys will go next. I don't want to promise anything on COH specifically right now but it's a tentative yes to more of it, at some point, with a definite yes to more Immortal content (at some point).  

Unfortunately, for the minute, after I wrap up some other projects I need to shift focus to getting my Unreal skills up to par after getting laid off this month. If I get hired very quickly that gear shift back might be quick, but that remains to be seen.  

Regardless, thank you so much for your response and enthusiasm. The state of the industry's making this a pretty shit time but things like this do really, really help.
