Fantastic art, music, and story. I thought some of the combat was a little slow and confusing to figure out at first. But, I got the hang of it eventually. Nice take on the jam constraint as well!

I'm not sure how this fit the jam constraint of not the main character, but by far my favorite one to play. So entertaining. Though I had trouble getting the hang of the controls. Wasn't super clear from the page what it took to hit the other players.

This was cute! I didn't enjoy being the healer and not the big bad hero, but that was the theme constraint, so well done!

I'm not quite sure how to play the game. If you could add some controls instructions to the game to make it clear how to play. I couldn't figure out what to do. would really help give it a better rating.

The game should be 2D matching the SNES as best you can.

I would normally say that's fine. But if you're planning on developing for the OUYA the judges for this jam are going to have a hard time playing your game. You're welcome to try, but I'd recommend planning a build for pc as well as whatever you do for the OUYA

You are not the main character

I would love to play this game! It loooks sooo good.

Thanks for the feedback. The name Essence of Grimm is actually a homage to Dark Souls. Definitely get the size complaint. I always try to bring the size down a bit, but unreal makes that difficult.

I like that you have to extend the pole arm things to move around and score points. Really simple, but well executed concept.

I was really excited to play this one after seeing it during the jam stream. Unfortunately I don't have a controller to play, and I couldn't fight once I got into battle. The c key doesn't work to cast magic, and I also couldn't run away from the battle. From what I did see of the game though, it has a lot of promise.

Visuals are great, but not being able to die kinda takes away some of the magic and fun. Also way way too many enemies too quick to come onscreen quickly overloads the game.  I do love a good space game though, always happy to see a space shooter.

I actually played through this before the rating period started. I don't usually play visual novels much, but this had a really nice quirky story to it, and a lot of fun animation. I can appreciate the game for what it is.

Despite the art style, I really like this game.  Polish this up a bit, and you could have a really fun engaging builder game.

Gets stuck on the loading screen when I try to run it in the browser, and process crash when I downloaded it and tried to run it.

Can't wait to see more of this one. I really think this will be a fun game once you get more of the story arc fleshed out.

The sound effects are spot on for an NES game! Love it

The game looks and sounds great! I had a difficult time getting the hang of the controls though.

Got a fatal error when trying to play the game. Doesn't matter if I choose a save file from start. This happens either at the character creation screen after hitting GO, or as in the screenshot when choosing a save.

Dont worry, games will be streamed and voted on. Also, I plan on playing and rating every game in the jam.

Do you have a pc (windows preferably) build of your game? The entries will be streamed on twitch.

Do you have a pc build for the game? I should have been more explicit about this. The games entered into the jam will be streamed on twitch (which requires a windows build)

I should have been explicit about this in the rules, but the game needs to be playable on pc in some form.

Do you have a windows build of your game?  Gonna be kind of hard to play your game with what's been uploaded.

Sounds like your windows version works better? Could you upload a windows version as well. I think when we go to stream the games on twitch it might play better. I'm seeing some slow down with your game and I have an i9 CPU.

Couple of things I noticed while playing the game:

  1.  Can't move with ASDW on my keyboard. Would improve usability to allow both arrow keys and ASDW
  2. That third screen jump requires a bit too precise jump timing. Sometimes I'd get it on the first try, and breeze through the next few screens, other times the character would fly off, not jumping, and just fall to their death, which is a little frustrating after you're pretty sure you've got the timing down.
  3. The similar jump to 3rd screen, but with spikes is even worse, because it's quite a bit farther along. After probably my 10th try at getting through the spikes on that last screen (I assume I was close to the end of the level bcz I'd opened a lot of doors), I just gave up. I'd lower the difficulty of this screen a bit. I don't think people are going to be willing to go through all the other screens just to die on that last spike jump 100 times just to have to start over and do it all over again.
  4.  I can't quit the game properly, or seem to reset. Not sure if those don't work, or if I just wasn't in the right menu. But I had to exit the game using the windows key, and then x out from there.

I'd say work on polishing the jump mechanic a bit more. Otherwise, really great job on that Atari feel. The sound effects are spot on, the visuals are great. Over all nice job, looking forward to seeing more of this one.

The music and art for this are fantastic! Definitely one of my personal favorite submissions.

This is quintessential super nintendo!

Nicely done, i would have sworn this is straight ripped from an SNES game if i didnt know any better.

Nice funky jam, i like it!

can't wait to see it! I did give people another option if they aren't artists, or don't want to do it.

I am considering modifying the art rule to allow existing box art. Let me know in the comments what you think.

If you do decide to play again, the enemies can't follow you into the crypts. And i found sometimes you could lose the skeletons around the trees and crypts. Werewolves are really fast, if one spots you, run into a crypt is realpy your only choice. Thanks for the feedback!
