No way to stop laying out doors once you choose one. Tutorial didn't cover the objective of the game, which is to stop the enemies - try to incorporate this as well in your tutorials, so the player doesn't have to figure it out for themselves.

Once I passed those hurdles I rather enjoyed your game. Good-looking assets and funny animations! I didn't participate in the jam so I can unfortunately not do more than tell you that you did a really good job!

Lucky me, I just find exactly the right tutorial video I need on YouTube. Now to complete the game in 1 hour!!

School and exercises got in the way. On top of that, the Tilemap system in Unity is trash, and I couldn't implement my gameplay-crucial algorithm using it, nor could I create my own, custom Tilemap as the Grid class  I already have written despawns every time I exit play mode. This is why I could not progress.

In any case, I have certainly learnt a lot about the fundamentals of Unity, including custom Editor code and ScriptableObjects. So, it's fine I guess.


P.S.

Despite all the above, I haven't been able to create a substitute for the Tilemap for the entire week and it's still freaking me out.

Maybe I'll post a completed version a great deal of time after the jam has ended, as the idea I came up with was so great.

Fun game. I liked your sound effects, although they were a bit repetitive. Gameplay was fun, but not exactly bug free. The graphics were great. Overall I liked it a lot.

Overall I can't say I had a lot of fun playing this. First of all, the jumping mechanic felt unrealistic - like I was on the moon - and gave no feedback whatsover. Second, fighting the enemies weren't very intriguing either as I could just stand by them, hold space resulting in the enemy getting constantly stunned and unable to inflict damage upon me while I disintegrate them.  The exact same goes for that "boss", which was just annoying for me. The way you implemented the theme, with these other NPCs following me around, was however rather good.

I very mych liked the graphics though, but the sound not as much. There was some music, which is the bare minimum, but it was just one track looping over and over. To top that off, there were no sound effects at all which significantly impacted the immersion, as well as my overall satisfaction.

Awesome game. It was intriguing, and very rewarding when I figured out the solution to the well-designed puzzles. Sound was good, and I loved the graphics. However, I would have liked to see a puzzle using more than just 2 clones in some way (maybe).

Yeah, that southern part was not perfectly planned indeed. This was after all something I made after school, minus one whole Monday, but I'm still very proud that I made something playable

Yeah, I think I always have too large ambitions - need to improve that - and pixel art isn't exactly my strongest time. Nevertheless, it was a lot of fun doing!

(Except for the infuriating bugs which took lots of time to fix)

I have not yet had time to rate even a single game (will start soon though), and I have not posted a single topic during the rating period. Oh, that's right, I made one reply in a rating topic, but that's it. How come I've gotten 28 rates so far?

Yeah, the game is unpolished, I'm completely aware that a couple of systems are not working, others were never implemented. I have  some experienced in game-dev, with many ups and downs, and therefore I'm not discouraged from any negative reviews here. Rather the opposite. I'll take any feedback I can get!

Sorry for the eye cancer. I'm a bit of a newbie in the pixel art and I'm still learning. However, I'm pleased to find that you enjoyed the mechanic :)

I'm a Unity C# programmer, but I'm perfectly able to create art assets, or sound/music assets. I was hoping that someone else could join me in a team; I've never been in one before, but I hope for a lot of fun!

I'm 15 years of age and this will be my fifth game jam. I would consider myself as relatively experienced when it comes to programming. I also have significant knowledge of the Unity game engine (nothing else). I may also be able to do some simple pixel art or vector if necessary. Otherwise I also have experience in SFX and music composition, however what I have mentioned are the things I would like assistance with. In this case I would do practically all programming.

I would like to work with someone with good English skills. Someone who lives in Europe would also be preferred as it would be easier to manage time this way.

Note that I will have somewhat limited time during the jam as I have school. I have also never worked with a team before, so I'm hoping for a good experience!

I also have school during the jam week, physical as well. However, I participated in the BTP Game Jam #3 a couple weeks ago - it was a blast - so I'm craving game-dev right now!  That's why I'm not gonna let som schooling stop me. I'll aim small, smaller than usual, and I'm thinking of forming a team so that I don't have to spend lots of time on the non-programming-related bits.

Awesome game! I had a lot of fun playing, and seeing as I had lots of time, I managed to complete all the levels! (In 1900+ seconds...)

Great music and SFX. I also love the concept you came up with, it was very intriguing indeed.

I also liked the simplistic art style you had going. After all, less is more.

Something I disliked was that the controls were a bit too responsive - I moved too fast to be able to react at times. Especially in the next to last level it was very annoying to go through the labyrinth multiple times, the route of which I had already figured out. I just didn't manage the jumps, they were too hard! Until the 15th time or something when I managed it :D (lmao)

Pretty good game overall, I'd say. I like the way you implemented the theme! The art style was interesting. Good, that is. The music was a bit underwhelming, but still fit in pretty nicely with the theme whereas the sound effect were pretty pleasing.

I found it a bit strange that a line of dots were being drawn out as I walked around. In any case it gave a good bit of feedback, but maybe that's just the SFX.

The level design made the gameplay fun and intriguing, though some were a bit rage-inducing as well. I'd suggest adding a sort of timer to being detected by the cameras to make it less of a death sentence to take a wrong step. Which brings me to the controls. They were good, but it was a bit hard to stay away from the "detection zones" when I could only move in 8 directions in a very short time-span. Maybe using the mouse to move would have been better? I don't actually know, that's for you to try out.

I liked the idea you had, and the physics, though it felt kind of laggy. I can't rate neither sounds nor music as there were none :(

Overall, interesting game, quite fun to explore the mechanics even though it was a bit hard to cut all the necessary connections, maybe you should visualize where you can cut in some way, that would surely make it easier.

Amazing game. It fits the theme very well in a new and fun way; I caught myself playing this for way too long lmao.

Music was good, fit in well with the aesthetic of the game and didn't feel very repetitive. The sound effects completed the sound experience as I found them pleasing. The gameplay was well thought out, not too easy, and not too hard, while still not annoying me.

All I can say is that I would have liked there to be some trees on the mainland too as it looked quite boring now.

(If it takes too much performance, maybe consider looking into LOD and such, and how to change that over distance to increase the performance.)

Overall, truly amazing game. Keep up the good work!

Was he announced as the winner by the hosts or was it just itch's algorithm that said he got the most 5 stars?

In the previous jams I have participated in, the Brackeys Game Jam 2020.1 and .2 as well as the Community Game Jam, the required ratings were 20, so I'd say it's the same here.

This jam has probably been the most fun since the start of my game-dev journey. It's my fourth one. I learned so much, and got to do so many new things and in the end I had managed to create what I wanted to! I didn't have to cut any corners, which I have had to do significantly in the previous jams. Perhaps it's just that my skills had just become enough to be actually good.

Additionally, I managed to get more than twice the ratings I have ever gotten before, and I've rated almost four times as many!

Anyways, does anyone else want to share their experience? I'd love to hear it from you!

If you were wondering, I expressnicely wrote in the tutorial that you were supposed to run over the two-storey houses twice to power them. Lmao
