Thank you! I appreciate you taking the time to express how you feel.

It makes my day to hear that you found yourself reflected on our protagonist because that's why we make games. I started this journey with the goal of gathering experiences worth writing down and making games that touch people or change the way they view life. People like you, who see themselves in the work I produce, encourage me to explore how video games can better tell people's experiences and give voice to the voiceless.

Hey everyone! I'm Thomas Guana AKA NotYourTypicalDev

It's been a while since my last update on FARSPEAKER, a 2d Puzzle-Simulator I'm developing in Unity.

On this latest update, you can see the whole User Manual (tutorial) of MOTH3R. I want to know what you think about it, love getting feedback!

For anyone interested...

This is the process I go through when designing and developing a new mechanic. My thoughts tend to be chaotic but I try to organize them in a way I can understand and also communicate to other people.

In this case, I started visualizing the two core mechanics [Left and Middle Boards] of the game to help me be conscious of all the systems I had to implement. Later [The far right] I began to structure how I wanted my code to work. This is an iterative process since things tend to change as I'm implementing them on Unity, but it gives me a clear path to follow.

Been doing this for a couple of months now and it has really improved my ability to convey my ideas and to be more efficient.

It's official... We have a name!

Just a quick update on the game art. Gris_artist is making a great job of making it feel like a workstation. Hopefully this week we can launch a 1st demo so stay tuned for more updates.

Prototyping a keypad mechanic for my still-untitled project. It checks whether you typed the correct phone number or not.

Hey Hey - I'm Thomas Guana AKA Not Your Typical Dev.

This is the start of a great project

Expect more updates in this game I’ve been working on with @gris_artist where you play as a futuristic switchboard operator. Here is just a snippet of what is to come.

Storytime - Started working with Gris on the GMTKJam, we felt we had a great idea based on this year’s theme Joined Together and we knew it would be a great challenge since it was our first Game Jam, but we couldn’t prepare for what was coming. After a couple of technical issues, we were a little behind our schedule but motivation kept us moving, until… A heavy thunderstorm caused a power outage in my house.

We were devastated, “All that work for nothing”. Now a couple of days have passed and we feel that we need to put this project out for the world to see. We are excited for you guys to play it so stay tuned for more information on when the demo is out!

Sorry for the long wait. In this new build I fixed the multiplayer connection.

Thank you for the feedback I'm going to be fixing the bug, in the meantime, you can play the Windows executable. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Hey Hey - I'm Thomas Guana AKA Not Your Typical Dev.

As our final project in college, I and my friend Juan Pablo AKA GRIS_Artist developed Dysthymia a 2D Puzzle-Platformer inspired by games like Inside and Limbo.

You can play it on the browser here: https://thomasguana.itch.io/dysthymia

The project centered around our personal experiences and how to tell a story through a videogame without any dialog. Moreover, it served as the starting point of my career as a game dev since it let me understand the challenges of building a game from the ground up (coming up with a concept, an original idea, having to playtest, etc.)

Hope you guys enjoy it!

-- We are planning to release it on Kickstarter to further develop the whole concept, making new rooms, and exploring new mechanics. We would love to get feedback first from this community so please, feel free to leave a comment on the game’s page or in this post. Thanks!

Hey Hey - I'm Thomas Guana AKA Not Your Typical Dev.

For the last couple of weeks, I’ve been making a multiplayer prototype build in Unity 2D + Photon2 following the Beginner's Guide to Multiplayer Game Development in Unity Course and I just released the final product - ARTIFACTS a VRC aesthetic experience.

You can play it on the browser or download it for free here: https://thomasguana.itch.io/artifacts
