Wow, the improvements look amazing! I’m looking forward to try out the updated demo.

Regarding the alpha demo on itch: isn’t it possible to have both, the alpha demo *and* the updated one, on itch.io? Perhaps by creating a separate game page for the alpha demo? I’d just love to keep it around for nostalgia reasons and it’s a nice way to show everyone who’s interested how many improvements have been made.

Nvm the weekend, I couldn’t contain my curiosity and played it right away. After playing it, I’m even more curious about the main game now?? There were so many hints and reveals that piqued my interest in Heart Cage even further!

I’m glad I’m not the only one who noticed the dissonance in the narrative caused by writing in 1st person p.o.v.

I understand that scenes like for example the one with Olivia are needed so players 1) don’t get a “wrong impression” of Ren (aka assuming him flirting with someone else while being on a date with Angel), and 2) to drive home that Ren is Not A Good Guy behind his shy guy facade he puts on in front of Angel. But,, it really just doesn’t make sense narrative-wise, and once you notice it, it becomes hard to ignore.

Using 1st person p.o.v. also doesn’t work well when introducing new characters, because no one walks around and starts to introduce friends and co-workers (in their own mind, to themselves) each and every time they show up somewhere. And like, the introductions seem to take place in real time because Angel completely spaces out during those time, prompting the newly introduced character to ask if they were listening.

This issue could be fixed by switching to 3rd person p.o.v., but that would require a complete rewrite of all scenes…

That aside, I completely agree with you that this is game has soo many nice mechanics and gimmicks, especially considering it’s a 1-person-project!

On another note, I think the

Leon talking like he knew about Ren when they ran into him and Mc's date came out of nowhere and really confused me

issue is actually a bug. Leon is only supposed to recognized Ren on the 2nd Day if Angel brought him home on Day 1!

Despite its shortness, it’s a really great game. The atmosphere and Art were great, and Marcelo’s even greater, hehe.

With what little clues were available though, I do wonder if MC Themself isn’t secretly messed up? 👀 Brandan was obv head over heels for MC, but MC wanted to get rid of him minor inconveniences, and they even thought of dragging their best friend into this? Wow wow wow…

Really would have loved to find out what other clues/info are hidden in the phone. I assume it’s something related to Marcelo? Since the diary has MC as the focus and the scrapbook sheds some light on Brandan, I mean.

And I can’t help but doubt the claim that brandan actively wanted to kill Mc. It sounds more like we got into a bad accident (maybe due to Brandan’s recklessness or whatever), but from Marcelo’s view it’s all the same, whether Brandan got MC hurt on purpose or not.

If anything, I am the one who should be thanking you. If you hadn’t shared the strategy guide on your website, I’d have had a hard time clearing the game as well. n_n;

I see some people struggling with getting all four endings so I’ll go ahead and translate the linked guide for those who need it. The guide is pretty spoiler-free imo.

Ending 1: 

1. click 3x on the milk
2. choose to drink the milk

Ending 2: 

1. click 3x on the milk
2. flip the plate
3. click the clothes —> then talk to Sasagawa
4. click the milk once
5. click the picture on the wall —> then talk to Sasagawa
6. click the collar —> then talk to Sasagawa
7. click the collar again
8. click the milk twice
9. flip the plate
10. click the milk once
11. throw the milk

Ending 3: 

• same steps as Ending 2 EXCEPT you need to flip the plate twice before investigating the room as instructed above! you’ll know you are on the right way when you get a CG after you flipped the plate a second time

Ending 4: 

• you need to unlock Ending 1-3 first
• same steps as Ending 3 until the final choice where instead of throwing the milk you’ll have to pick to drink the milk

Could you, or any other backer that still lurks here, perhaps copy-paste what the update says? The post is only available for backers, but if the project is indeed cancelled, maybe it would be better to post it in the comments to warn potential itch.io customers.

The title of that update is “[…] Upcoming Updates/Content + Continuing” so it sounds more like the project is still alive and kicking.

And with an “official” cancellation statement like that, maybe this project can be reported to itch.io and taken down so no more people will be scammed. (although this sadly isn’t the first nor will it be the last game here that’s forever up and keeps taking “pre-orders” even though the devs have long moved on or vanished…)

Oh wow, I didn’t know there was a Kickstarter planned! Sad I missed the Early Bird tiers, but super happy it got funded so quickly! Congrats, congrats!!

And my coward self is very relieved to see the game won’t contain any jumpscares. :’)
