No cannon sound

Hello,

I installed the GOF 2.5 mod but I don't get any sound for the cannons. No matter what I do. Tried a bunch of settings diefferently. Starting a new save. But no luck. Everything else is working fine. 
Can anybody help me? 


Edit: Activated "Logging" and this is what it says. Can anybody help fix this?

Well I took a look and found that whoever made the changes to Cannons_init.c for that version of GOF, changed the cannon sounds, but did not create any sound alias for them.  I have never played 2 or 2.5, so I was not aware of this problem. I'm generally opposed to fixing GOF 2 and 2.5, because of things like this; they either didn't finish their mods, or were incompetent.  I offer them as downloads, because for some reason some people want to play those two version, but both 2 and 2.5 are not actually improvements over GOF 1.2, but rather, they took a bunch of things out, stripped it down and frankly, I think messed it up.

Anyway, it appears they wanted different sounds for cannons (e.g. cannon_fire_8), but did not create sound aliases or actually add the sound files for them.  I'll put this on a list and maybe substitute what we did for ERAS 2, but it is not a priority for me, because I don't really want to support 2 or 2.5 because of their screwups.  I suggest either GOF 1.2 or ERAS 2 because they are more complete and I will support those two versions.  But since it appears no cannons for GOF 2.5 will sound because of this, I will probably get to substituting the ERAS sounds in at some point, because it is not a difficult fix, but I can't guarantee a timeframe at the moment.

The problem I have with ERAS 2 is that the frame rate seems to be pretty bad.. (its not my PC, 2080Ti and ryzen 9 3900X)

I din't really read into these mods and their differences, isn't GOF 1.2 older than 2.5?

I added the missing aliases to GOF 2.5 for cannons.

GOF 1.2 is older than both 2 and 2.5 (I accidentally labeled 2.1.5 as 2.5, and have simply continued to keep that mistake so the Itch links do not need to be redone).  But when the modders created them, instead of adding or improving upon GOF 1, they appear to have removed most of the ship AI decisions in the scripts, removed surrender/speak feature at sea, removed most of the new ships, removed characters, etc.  I don't consider either 2 or 2.5 an upgrade, based on what I see, but rather a very stripped down version of GOF 1.  I now find people often complaining about mistakes like the missing sound aliases you just discovered.  In retrospect, I probably shouldn't have bothered to port them over to Maelstrom compatibility; I never played 2 or 2.5, but only 1.2 and I assumed from various forum posts that both 2 and 2.5 were desirable, but I am now discovering that this was probably because other people, like myself, assume that the later/higher number means they are better.  I personally think that 2 and 2.5 are inferior to GOF 1.
