A Tad Confused

I have no problem getting Historical Eras II to run, following the directions. I do not seem able to get Gentlemen of Fortune to run following the same directions. Different paths of course. The game runs fine under historical eras. When I try and run GOF I get the below message. Not a real big deal. Although your video shows the excellent music and ship skins for GOF. I downloaded GOF twice thinking I had a bad file or something. Any suggestions? (I know there are a couple of shortcuts on the desk top. They are experiments.)

Don't know.  What GOF version?  Can you also post system.log, compile.log and if exists, error.log files?

I have GOF 25. I will double check all of my settings and either send you the files or let you know it is working. Thank you for the reply.

I made sure everything was pointed to where it is suppose to be pointed. The ERASII is happy. GOF 25 not so much. The system.log and compile.log were created for ERASII. No logs or error logs were created for GOF 25.

Here is a link for the files that I found. Not much help, I know since they are from ERASII and that version is happy.

I do not use Dropbox very often, so... if I screwed it up let me know.

Thank you for looking into this. It must be something I messed up on my end. But so far the answer eludes me.

If there are no log files at all, you are probably not pointed to the correct directory.  In a file explorer, navigate to the GOF 2.5 folder and at the top, highlight the full path and past it in a reply.  Then I can describe for you how to point the engine startup to that path.

Here you go:

C:\Maelstrom\games\gentlemen-of-fortune-25

OK, now in file explorer, navigate to find the Maelstrom.exe you want to use on your computer (e.g. DirectX9_64bit\Maelstrom.exe) and right-click Maelstrom, select Create Shortcut.  Now right-click the shortcut and replace the Start In:  C:\Maelstrom\games\gentlemen-of-fortune-25.  Double-click shortcut to test.

You can rename, move and copy that shortcut to wherever you want.

I copied and moved everything to new folders so I would not have a chance of confusing GOF and ERAS locations. I got everything to work before I came back here to see what you had to say.

I would like to thank you for your patience and willingness to help. I have no idea what step I missed or FUBARed.

I am looking forward to playing this game while admiring all of you and your teams hard work.

Thanks again,

Al

Now that I finally had the opportunity to play the game, thanks to your help, it is amazing. Smooth transitions along with good AI. I hope you find your own fix for your recording software. Your video gives a good representation. Actually playing the game shows how much work went into it.

Kudos to you and your team.
