Impossible Campaign Boss Fight (Mutations)

Playing campaign, got to the Crystal Nexus.  It's fun, it's weird, things get mutated, yes, that's neat and all.  Get to the final bossfight, the Tethervore.  It enters with the following stats and abilities/mutations: 4Atk, 16HP, Lifesteal, Wither(? don't remember the number, may have been 3), Relentless, Damage Cap 2, and might have had extra HP, I don't remember.  As always, summons a random mutated enemy every turn.

Do you see the problem?  Can't deal more than 2 damage per attack, boss will always heal four until I have shields.  Can't stun to stop lifesteal, constantly losing die faces to Wither, and rapidly losing ground if I do focus attacks against other enemies that are constantly spawning. Over time I could have potentially won, seeing as I was playing Demonologist and had a number of Night faces, but the turn timer made it impossible.  Hell, mathematically, if I did exactly 8 damage to it every turn, starting from turn one, it still would have taken 3 turns with perfect rolling luck on all four dice, each turn, with the constant hope that I don't die to whatever else is showing up in the meantime.

So, here's my suggestion: code certain mutation abilities to be impossible to spawn onto a boss.  For example, Lifesteal+Damage Cap? Disallow Relentless.  Relentless and Lifesteal? Disallow Damage Cap.  Etc...  Basically, there are combinations that make it next to impossible to succeed, and in a campaign setting on the next to last level?  It was devastating.

Yeah that's a nasty combination for sure and I agree that it might be a good idea to disallow some pairings of mutations. Sorry about your run and thanks for the feedback!

No worries, and apologies if my tone was snotty or unkind.  Frustration was showing through.  I genuinely love this game and it's already sucked away more hours than I would have guessed from me.  Thank you for your attention to the game AND community!

No problem, I didn't read it that way and I think a little bit of frustration was warranted in this case ;). Feedback like this help us think about the game and thus makes the game better whether we act on it or not, so we genuinely appreciate it. Happy to hear that you're having fun with the game!

Adding the Shapeshifter to this (Hard Sun Monestary). Ran across a pair of shapeshifters (I think it's the 3rd wave?) that BOTH had "damage cap 1" as their mutation and starting stats of 4/7 (I don't recall which was attack at the time, I think they were both 7 attack and 4 hp) and I only had three dice. There was no way to kill one and hp-tank the other, or have enough shield. Even with captured specters and a Sacrifice ability I don't think that fight was possible.

Damage cap of 2 or 3 would be more reasonable.

Yeah, I agree that's a bit harsh, especially since that scenario is pretty tough in hard mode already. Good feedback, thanks!
