hiya, so when i download a game (not just a browser game in case that's what my title sounded like) from the itch.io website (not the app) and extract it with winrar and open the folder im usually greeted by a unityplayer.dll file and maybe a MonoBleedingEdge file if im lucky lol. idk what they mean but im not able to open the game, this happens with pretty much every game i download please help if you can :)

Wait, there's no executable? That's odd, sounds like it was left out when packaging the game. Can you give an example?

(For what it's worth, those are files from Unity. It's probably the most popular game engine nowadays.)

well a few games with the monobleedingedge and unityplayerdll things are bright lancer, devil express, sclash and shinin blades (just picked randomly). there are some games that don't have the two files mentioned but still don't work although these are a small amount. when i download the game on the itch app im able to play these games with the two files. If unity has something to do with it could i possibly need to download some kind of unity application?

Links would have helped, so I didn't have to go and search, but whatever.

Sclash is too big for me to check, but Bright Lancer and Devil Express both have executables in the archives. Maybe there was an issue when you unpacked the archives.

use 7zip instead of winrar, the files are usually zip files for which it's better (but it can also unpack rar files).
