Problem importing sprites

I keep having problems attempting to import a sprite. I get the error message "error: pic.gif not imported :("

I type "import sprites pic.gif" into the console

Is there a problem with the gif file im trying to import or does it have to be a png?

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated :)

It has to be a png, GIF is not longer supported, sorry.

I would like to know what the specifications of a png needs to be in order for it to be imported?

I think it should be 128x128 png image.
