Request: Refresh the "most recent" tab (only once) when changing a project's status to released

As a feature request, it would be great if a project was bumped back to the top of the "most recent" tab (eg when filtering the store by tags) the first time it changes status to released. This would avoid exploits, since it only happens once, and would greatly benefit a number of developers who choose to create their itch pages weeks or even months before their actual release.

Or if there are still concerns with exploits appearing on the top of the most recent tab twice, then I think it would be preferred to not appear on top immediately when the page is created, but instead get bumped to the top when first released, which is when it matters most.

Supposedly some kind of bump happens when a "major update" devlog is posted, with manual admin approval, but the lack of transparency and clarity around this makes it difficult to trust or plan for.  I don't know what will actually happen to my current project when I release it, or whether the amount of time it spends stuck in the approval queue will impact its visibility.  Even the quality guidelines FAQ flatly states that a project can never be put back at the top of the most recent list after publication, so what exactly does a major update do?

Incidentally, projects with no downloads don't appear in the search results at all - so an in-development project doesn't even get that initial boost to begin with.

I don't know what kind of possible exploit scenarios the admins have gamed out before setting it up this way, but it's not great from a creator perspective.  It makes no sense that setting up a project presence ahead of time can potentially reduce your visibility when it's finished.

Well said.

Interestingly I didn't know about the "with manual admin approval" part when posting a major update, but now that I read the description, it does say "Major Update or Launch: These posts will boost project position on the Recently Added & Updated list pending curator approval."

Well, if there's any mods out there who would bestow a blessing upon my major update for launch, I would greatly appreciate it <3
