Making basic changes to carcass of existing game before jam starts?

Hi,

I am planning on making my submission using a prior game as a starting point.

Am I allowed to make any of the following changes to the existing game before the start of the Jam, or should I make no modifications until the Jam starts?

Work I hoped to do before the Jam includes:

  • Creating a copy of the game, and checking that the game still works in my Game Engine.
  • Deleting assets that I think I will not need from the prior game.
  • Importing and configuring new versions generic gameplay systems (e.g. Scene Transition Manager, Music/SFX Managers)

To be clear, I am not planning on making any modifications before the Jam such as adding assets and logic that are novel or unique.

Thanks!

yes. This is fine! The important part to remember is: only during the time-frame you can work in what makes your game unique :)

We also encourage sharing this empty carcass with others, both because it can be useful but also for transparency., but it's not mandatory.

Thanks for the reply! Glad for the clarity. I'll try creating a github repo to put the carcass in and show what I started with.
