Thanks for downloading Bean Guy : Rogue Elements!

If you have more questions about how to play the game, you might be at the right place. This guide will cover mechanics beyond the small in-game tutorial and act as a basic wiki. If you have more questions you can make requests by posting another topic here on the itch.io game's community (this one is locked to keep everything clean).

Ads

You can choose if you want to see advertisement while you play the game. Contrary to most games, you can fully disable ads for free. To do so, tap the "ad level" button in the main menu to set the cursor on the blue calm face on the left. You can also choose to see a small ad every five fights. Every time you see this little ad, you will get four gold coins, and your regular gold earnings will be 50% higher on average.  To do so, select the greedy green face in the middle. You can also choose to see a lot of ads by selecting the dizzy pink face on the right. Then you will be constantly interrupted at each fight to be granted four gold, and you will have a banner at the bottom of the screen, and your regular gold earnings are brought up to 100%. When you die, you will be given the choice to double your earnings by watching a long rewarded ad until the end. The gold you harvested via previous ads will also be duplicated.

Elements

The four elements in this game are earth, water, fire, and air.  Your character has a certain level of power in each elements. This power is gained mostly by equipping items, but also by upgrading your class. Those power levels have an impact how most abilities behave and how much damage some weapons will inflict. You can see how much power you have in one element, just like any other characteristic, by looking at the number between ( ) in your inventory when you find corresponding items.

Time Chests

Time chests are here to encourage fast play. If your chest timer reaches zero you will lose one chest. Every time you kill an enemy, additional time is added to your chest timer. But you might also obtain an additional chest if you are lucky. Below the chest timer you can see a number in %, this is a bonus to the probability of obtaining a chest. The more you accumulate time the more likely you are to obtain a new chest. Time chests contain one of the special rewards unobtainable by other means : A potion that regenerate a lot of health and mana, bonus experience, bonus luck that improves the next items you obtain, and gold that allows you to upgrade your classes before starting a new game. Chests will be granted every five fights. The faster you kill monsters the more you will regenerate invested health and mana, and earn you rewards, so don't hesitate!

Upper right corner HUD. Up to bottom : Total fight time (00:46), gold earned during the game (+0), number of time chests (1), time remaining before chest lost (20s), bonus probability to obtain a time chest upon killing an enemy (+4.3%)

Biomes

Every five fight you will have to choose a biome to continue to. Every biome has a dominant element. Every biome contains different enemies, which are likely to resist damages in the dominant element of the biome. However, biomes also contain items that provide power in their dominant element. The more you explore a biome the more enemies will spawn in. It will make the game significantly harder but will provide more time chests and items.

Abilities

Most abilities deal damage in one particular element, some deal damages in more than one element, some do not deal damage but have their effect amplified by elements, and a few ones don't interact with elements at all. The colour of the icon often matches the corresponding element. To know everything about one ability you can long-press an ability in-game, or go to your ability inventory and select the one you want to see. Abilities can be passive or active, which means you might simply equip it to benefit from its effect, or you might need to use it. Most active abilities will cost mana when used. When you accumulate 1000 points of experience you will level up and be granted one ability. Go to your abilities menu to choose between learning the predetermined "book" ability or the randomly chosen "inspiration" ability. If you pick an ability you already learned, the ability will level up. Their level is expressed as Roman numbers right down their icons.

3 abilities and the attack button. All ablities are level 1. Blue for water, purple for air, red for fire. The water ability has one charge.

Items

Items are found after every victory. They are of six types : hat, chest ring, amulet, melee weapon, and ranged weapon. Open your inventory to see all the items you looted. They are sorted by category, so you will have to select a particular category to see all the items you own in this category. If you select an item, you might equip it by pressing the EQUIP button. Once equipped, items provide some bonus in one or multiple characteristics. You can see those bonus in the item's description in your inventory when you select it. Right after the bonus amount, you will see a number between ( ) that expresses the total bonus of all your items in this characteristic.

The Blue Wool vest, providing 35 max health points. In total, the player has 89 max health point, as indicated between ( ).

Damages

Damages can be of physical type or of one elemental type. Physical damages are in black, earth damages are in green and brown, water damages are in blue, fire damages are in red, air damages are in purple. When an enemy is resistant or weak to a type of damage, the damages dealt in this type will look and sound different.

Upgrading

You can upgrade every class separately. The upgrade tree has a great number of choice that are fairly explicit. Above everything you can see your total power level, representing the worth of every upgrade you bought on this class. When the power level of a class increases, the price of buying another upgrade on this class increases as well. The theorical maximum power level of a class is 4000. You should know that when you upgrade physical power or elemental power, not only you start new runs on this class with your bonus but you also gain some every level.
