can you change the fan blades to not be instant death?

I got to the waste processing level and I always clip a blade and have to do the slime ride then the crushers and then the fan valve challenge again and again

then die instantly bumping into a single fan in that evil fast underwater fan maze

I've died so many times I figured out how to get to the maze without losing more then the health charger can restore

but it doesn't matter if I have 100 health or 5 health I still die in one hit

I basically got stuck on anything that involved a fan

it's either you change the fans damage  or you actually add a console so I can put sv_cheats in and turn on god mode

because this is infuriating I'm not a machine I make mistakes and tend to make more mistakes right after failing

sorry for the whole rant

I played through the game up to that point and then got stuck

maybe a suggestion add a checkpoint at the beginning of that maze

or maybe add little marks on the ground for when you need to jump

I figured I need to keep moving and double jump at the correct time to get through it

but putting that into practice is kind of difficult

anyway the game is awesome

I'm playing it on a HP stream laptop btw

think of a windows 10 Chromebook that has 4 GB of ram and 4 GB of actual storage

the game runs amazingly well.

but you should probably include that august DirectX distributable in the Block Mesa windows package

windows stopped carrying that file and i had to go on a dodgy website to get it so i could actually play the game.

I'm stoked to hear great constructive feedback on this section of the game!! Huge thanks.

I'm now going to implement changes to those fan blade damages being instant kills. (edit: It's absolutely brutal and I apologize...I'm reducing the damage right now (for the next update)). I'll  go back into two earlier parts and do the same with fan blade damage there too. In the next update I'll add a cheat of some sort like + extra health (just a keyboard button press at any time) so you'll be able to get through it easier, I'll reduce the instant death fans damage to 30% instead of 100%, meaning you will still need skill, but it won't be as unfair. ;)

For the time being I know it's brutal at end...but you were roughly 2/3 through the FINAL map of the current game! I made it difficult because it's where I was leaving things off for a challenge for another year or more while my real job gets in the way. Consider the maze of fans (and what comes after them) as an end of game challenge for now...if you beat that, you're a damn fine player! :)

Checkpoints are such a good idea. Hopefully down the track. It likely won't be anytime soon though.  This is still just a passion project in my spare time. I don't know what I'll be uploading for the next update, but the next new maps will hopefully be November 19th 2023.

Lastly, you're 100% right on the DirectX redistributable...I'll add it soon as I can locate it again.

Many thanks again, really appreciate you playing and the invaluable feedback.

The game is updated (version 1.3 now) and I changed fan blades from the pretty unfair instant kill across all maps that feature them. This was great feedback and I think it's a huge improvement. Thanks again.

In the rush to release the latest update I forgot to do this. I hope people find the current state of the game challenging, but much fairer now (especially in the second map for 'Residue Processing'!).
Lastly, I'd love to see a playthrough if anyone has the time and ability to record it.

Cheers
