I have joined a lot of bundles and made a lot of bundles mostly co-op ones. I noticed two major factors that influenced the bundles it was the quality and quantity of the items in the bundle. In some bundle I hosted I cared mostly on quantity and forgot about quality, we did well and got a lot of sales but overtime the quality was now too low and the bundle started losing sales. So which is better quality or quantity? I asked a lot of people this question but they had no reasonable answer. I even tried asking Chat GPT about this issue of mine, it said I should find a way to balance the two equally. In bundles like the Racial and other charity bundle are known to balance the equation here but the 'charity' factor causes the effect of quality and quantity to be reduced. So I analyzed a good amount of bundles and came to a conclusion. They are four factors that affect a bundle they are:
- Quantity
- Quality
- Price
- Competition
- Promotion
Quantity:
This is the number of items in the bundle in the first place. We all agree that the more items the more sales we can get but this is gravely reliant on quality.
Quality:
The quality of a bundle in my opinion is the sum of the number of ratings a bundle has divided by the number of items
I.e. Quality= Sum of Rating/No of items
This formula is very effective in seeing how much quality your bundle has
Price:
The price is another major factor. You can just randomly pick the price of your bundle based on the cause of the bundle but I recommend putting a price based on quality not quantity.
I have an experimental formula for finding the price of a bundle
Price = (Quality * Quantity)/Y
Y is a number between the ranges of 2-5. 5 is recommended for charity or low-budgeted bundles while a default of 2 is also recommended for lower bundles
Competition:
If you are doing a bundle in a Winter Sale period for instance expect great competition as you’re not the only one looking for sales. You should schedule lower quality or just normal bundles on less competitive months while high quality and charity bundles anytime you want. They are some months were I noticed bundles are scarcely found February, March, May, Mid July, Sep-Nov.
Promotion:
This is the post-bundle stage. You followed all the rules but still no sales maybe because nobody knows you are there. Itch.io is already a place where some people don't know but when you share your bundle more people will get to buy. I recommend the following socials for promotions Twitter, Mastodon, Reddit, Bluesky, Plurk, Game Jolt, Cohort etc. They are so many other social media platforms that you can share your bundles you just have to find it.
With these entire factors equal you should be good to go with your bundle.
