Art Copyrigth Question

Hello,

I'm Macimus a new game dev and I downloaded an art asset from artstation which I liked. I recolored it to fit my game theme and I want to use the recolored version in my game.

My question is:  is this way of manipulating art allowed and used as "mine" or can I get in trouble after I release my game for free/money?

I only ask because there is a rule in the site terms of service that say that you can only use arts from there for personal use. If I add things to an art is it still considered stealing?

Yes, reusing art by someone else without permission, even with changes, can get you in trouble. To stay on the safe side, either look for art with an open source license, or else contact the artist and request permission. They normally have the last word on how their own art can be used.

(This isn't legal advice. Just stay on the safe side.)
