I keep getting knocked up by the fishman in the arena in order to get seedbed stacks

HOWEVER I only give birth to human babies and I cannot sell those to Elise (want to do reborn mechanics)

Is that an error or am I just getting really unlucky?

It is not an error. You don't need to sell babies other than abomination ones in order to rebirth. To rebirth just die with a baby in your inventory! And remember to put all the loot you have(exept for the baby) in bank before doing that!

all babies say "my child" unless you picked it out of the trash then it says "Someone's child"

Yes, either in your inventory... or hand it over to the monastery so you don’t have to worry about safety.

you find them in piles of trash in the streets of noer rare like <2% chance you can sell them to elise or cook them in a pot

Yes, you just need to remember that when you give birth to a human baby after fucking a fishkind it means you got a deepone! After rebirth you will have body odour and green eyes!
