I've been playing low Strength characters recently and it's been nice, it's fun to (at least hypothetically) end up in situations where I can be grappled and overpowered by monsters, but I have a couple gripes about this content:
1) Enemies have very few opportunities to grapple!
In most stances initiated by the player, there's absolutely no fear of backfiring because the enemy will immediately break stance if they get advantage. If you want to experience the bottom side of the grapple system, the only consistent way I can find to do so with most enemies is to use Full Nelson into a Takedown, Flip the opponent so they're facing me, and then hope they use Reversal. How am I supposed to feel like I'm being overpowered if I've literally engineered the entire situation? You can't even do this with some enemies (Harpy, Ogre, Centaur/Unicorn, etc.) because you're not allowed to Full Nelson them. I'm aware that if you're down and they're standing, most enemies can sometimes initiate a grapple, but even at full enemy arousal I find they are just as likely to attack instead. The only enemies I can think of that have grapple moves are the Harpy, which hardly counts because it just goes directly into blowjob, and Urka, who has the same issue as the harpy because her Bondage is impossible to resist (I think?) and it just goes straight into sex, and with many enemies you can usually just struggle out of sex before they finish. I wish we had more opportunities for enemies to try and force us into compromising situations by means other than just whacking us into submission. Imagine if you were constantly in danger of enemies initiating a grapple, and/or if your own grapples could completely backfire into a situation where you're the one being controlled. It would be a fun way to punish the player for having a poor Strength, which in my opinion the game doesn't do quite enough of compared to other stats. But even if they did have the ability to do these things, it wouldn't matter, because:
2) Enemies are *terrible* at grappling!
As far as I can tell, enemies in most stances will just choose a random move that they have the stamina for. This makes the player much stronger in grapple than they should be, either because the enemy will just use a move that doesn't improve their position at all, or because they've run out of stamina and before they can recover enough stamina to use a move that improves their grapple position, they spend it on a move that doesn't do anything. Even if you finally get into a situation where you're being grappled by an enemy that should be stronger than you, nothing ends up happening unless you do nothing over and over again, because the enemy doesn't have enough stamina to improve their own grapple. Personally, I'm finding that my Strength 1 character is easily able to defeat even Werewolves in grappling! It just feels silly, and it's annoying for all the same reasons as my first complaint: I'm not being defeated by the enemy, rather I'm having to go way out of my own way to purposely end up in a situation that's supposed to be the enemy overpowering me.
In conclusion, I feel kind of underwhelmed by the grappling content, which is a shame because I also feel it has a lot of potential. As it stands now, playing with low Strength feels like it doesn't come with enough disadvantages for non-melee characters in my opinion, as it rarely ever really comes into play outside of melee damage. Even if you end up in a grapple, it hardly matters whether you have Strength or not, as you can consistently win grapples against powerful opponents just by using a move that struggles every turn. And, I think it would be fun to have more opponents that can grapple you in unique and interesting ways. Sorry for the mini-essay, I just felt I should give my two cents on what I wish I could see in future editions of this game. If you have any comments, or if you feel I've gotten something wrong or missed out on anything too relevant, please let me know.
