How the game sorting works?

I published a game demo called Dungeon Slayer on 15/Feb/2019.  After the game is published,  I can easily find it a couple of days later by searching strategy game.  And some download and feedback are coming as well, which is good. Then I uploaded a new demo zip file on 21/Feb/2019. Since then, I couldn't find the game by the tag strategy anymore. And there is almost no view and download since then. (yes, I set the new demo file as published)

I uploaded the game demo almost at the same time to Gamejolt  and uploaded the new demo as well. And the number download and views are quite stable on that side. At the moment is almost double download and view number.

I can understand that many new games would be updated everyday. But just curious how the game is display and sorted in search. And it looks like a bug to me.

By default games are sorted by popularity, which works in an obfuscated way so people don't try to play tricks. New games are given a boost at first; later it also depends on how many people see or download or rate your game, things like that. Yours is very new, so it's going to dip lower in search results until people have interacted with it for a while. Might want to also advertise it outside of Itch until it gets more popular.

Thanks for the clarification.  As it just happened after I uploaded the new demo. I thought I did something wrong with it and make the game totally disappear. :)

Searching by a tag does not work on this site: my game will not show up (yes, I scrolled all the way to the bottom), while I have assigned the tag I was looking by.
