All the layouts and images have disappeared!

I downloaded the HTML file of the book on my computer, but when I opened it again, it looks very plain, with none of the layout or images. What happened?!

Dear imaginary participant, don't worry. It will all work again once you open that file on a system with internet access.

For this edition, I decided to host all external elements online. The style sheets, the font and all pictures are taken online once the file gets opened.

On one hand, this makes it simpler to manage the project, since you only need to download/edit/reupload a single html file.

On the other, this means that the full experience is only available when opening the file on a system with internet access. That should cover most translators and all the viewers but, if for any reason you need to work offline, all you need to do is carry on regardless and the missing elements will be restored once shared on an online system.

Best of luck, imaginary translator, I'm rooting for you!

Follow-up question: if, say, I want to take an illustration from the handily provided oldbookillustration dot com, but I need to crop it first (for the sake of the page layout and/or for creative purposes), is it okay to host it on Imgur or similar web-based image host websites?

Sure, you're free to do anything you want! The more creative you are, the more your entry is likely to stand out.
