Damage and "Death"

Something that confused me a bit about this game is that you can "kill" a humanoid robot by amputating its hands, yet you have to slice through a garbage bot for what feels like hours to get it to stop moving. That led me to wonder a couple things:

1. If garbage robots are just THAT impervious,

and 2. if it would be possible to expand upon modifying behavior based on removed limbs (like how currently robots hop on one leg if the other is removed)?

Also, I don't know why, exactly, but finally murdering a garbage bot was unbelievably satisfying. Seriously, those things take forever to break.

  1. Garbage robots are meant to die easier than they do right now. That said, the cool thing that would happen when you kill one isn't in the game so I'm gonna leave them for now. :)
  2. Yes, expanding on dismemberment is certainly possible. Right now my rule of thumb is: if it can't kill you anymore, it's dead. Had some swordless robots just running at you for a while. It was confusing.

Weaponless robots could still kick the player and function as distractions. They could also be given a way to grab onto the player and restrict movement. Even robots who have lost both legs could crawl at the player to try and latch on. The dismemberment is a huge part of the game IMO so I'd love to see it expanded on.

Cool, that's good feedback! :)

It's a balance between the hilarious novelty of seeing a torso crawl at you like a terminator vs the satisfaction of killing enemies in a single spectacular stroke.

ive had it so you just amputate the legs of an archer and it dies. it could still kill you right?

What about adding spidertron grenades (but a bit weaker) for the player to drow, or a Hack abillity to make robots be knocked down, atack allies, or even a short circuit that deactivates for nearby robots for a short period? Not all these features, put on what is balanced.

I don't know about you guys, but the prospect of being lynched by robot zombies is terrifying. I love it!

Maybe there's a zombie robot that JUST. WON'T. DIE!!!!!!

That's an interesting concept.

So it's an enemy type rather than a rule that applies to all enemies. I can see that being interesting.

Would the undying mechanic work by the robot constantly regenerating limbs until you hit a certain spot? (Like the brain if it's a zombie

!!!!!!!!!! I love this idea! Could also think of it as a necromancer/healer robot that is the one repairing them

maybe a boss round? Large necromacer like robot with different spells and it summons fast weaponless zombie-like robots that regenerate. Maybe the necromacer can only kill you with a spell that requires you to stay still and the zombie's goal is to kick you to the ground?

It would be cool if the necromancer guy would use a spell on the chopped up robots (but one at a time for balance I guess), and when he does it does an animation similar to that garbage pickup one, and the pieces float up and get put back in place! That would be bad ass to say the least.

Dual wielding bots should be a thing, too.

Another thing is if you could knock the sword out of a robot's hands if you had the Blocking Unbalance skill high enough.

The swordless robots should pick up swords from dead corpses.
