Hey redwalf!
To use Steam you need a Steam User account and to download the Steam client that lets you manage what games you have installed.
The full steps to play the game via Steam would be:
Does that help?

Hello humans!
We’ve been building a lot of cool tools for Chapter 5! While we work on the chapter, we thought it would be fun to share them with you in a little update.
While you could already play existing animations on characters, now you can go a step further and make granular adjustments to a character’s pose directly inside the Level Editor!
This is great for cinematic moments (we’re using it for Chapter 5) as well as creating new and interesting attack / movement patterns for the enemies of the game, specific to your level.
So how do you make crazy new animations? We made a tutorial! 😀
Now you can organize all your animation tracks in handy folders! This is great for big and complex animations.
Ever wanted to make the players of your level press a button? Now you can.
This might seem like a minor change to highlight, but this confused a lot of people! If you want to triggers things when the player walks into an area, use the AITriggerArea.
We fixed a number of bugs with this release:
That’s it for this update. Let us know if you make a super cool animation with the new tools! 😀
Chapter 5 will bring us to the final showdown of the Clone Drone storyline.
We've been working hard on laying down the foundations, exploring new game mechanics and expanding our level editor technology to raise the quality of our content even higher.
One of the key questions we asked ourselves at the end of Chapter 4, was how to proceed from its cliffhanger of an ending. We could move the plot along using cutscenes, but I'm happy to announce that instead you'll be able to have full control of your new battlecruiser in glorious 3D space combat!!!
With the release of the final chapter of the story mode we're also going to be launching the game out of Early Access!
We'll likely put out an update or two after launch, but after four awesome years of development we're starting to look ahead towards what other cool games we can build. We hope you'll join us on that journey when the time comes! :)
We're super excited to tell you that Clone Drone will be coming to Xbox One, Playstation 4 and Nintendo Switch!
While the main team finishes up Chapter 5, the talented people at The Knights of Unity are hard at work making sure the game integrates smoothly with all the major consoles.
We're aiming to launch both Chapter 5 and the console releases in in one glorious update sometime around October.
Note: This date is not confirmed and might change, but that's what we're aiming for right now.
The experimental branch has a preview of space combat here: http://clonedroneinthedangerzone.com/experimental We'd love to know what you think of it so far. :)
As always, you can follow the progress of Chapter 5 live on Twitch right here: https://www.twitch.tv/doborog
Let us know if you have any questions! <3
Hello humans!
Good news! We just added 5 new delightful Last Bot Standing levels, and introduced several balancing changes.
Have you ever observed other players spinning around crazily and somehow killing people? We have, and it’s not much fun to be on the other side of.
The new update introduces restrictions on how far you can turn while swinging your weapon. Our goal has been to maintain a good range of motion, so you can still rotate towards your target and strike with great precision, but discourage flailing around wildly around in an attempt to make the hitbox make accidental contact with your opponent.
All weapons have this new restriction, but the one where it was used the most was probably the spear.
To illustrate what we’re talking about, here is a demonstration of flicking the spear around:
(thanks Gontarekt + Neik Alexander!)
And here is the fix:
The camera still moves to not interrupt your flow of motion.
The spear is of course not the only weapon this applies to. Hammer + Sword can no longer spin around wildly either.
Other multiplayer balancing changes:
A final note: We don’t resent anyone who may have flicked their spear around or rotated their hammer wildly in the past. If the game allows you to do it, it is a legitimate way to play! It is our hope that these changes make for a more predictable and fun multiplayer experience for everyone. Let us know what you think! 🙂
Five new levels has entered the permanent Last Bot Standing rotation!
Moving Floor
The risk/reward of getting upgrades is turned TO THE MAX in this level where the floor goes away when you stand on it.
The Facility
Jump around these pretty walkways.
Death Cubes
What is better than a Death Cube? ALL THE DEATH CUBES!
Cliffside
Vast height differences and moving platforms makes for an interesting time among the cliffs.
Crashed Waiting Room
Do you like playing in the Waiting Room? Now you don’t have to leave it!
You can now push garbage around. Help the garbage bots keep the arena clean! 🚮🚮🚮
We’ve also fixed a multitude of bugs, including:
The time has come… for CHAPTER 5!!!
We’ll be ramping up development for the final story chapter in the coming weeks. This is going to be an epic chapter, so expect a release date many months from now.
More info when we have it! 🙂
Do you like to consume content in a rich variety of human language?? Now it is possible!
We just added 8 wonderful human languages:
For most of them we have translated all of the UI and added subtitles. For French and German we have also installed voice translators in all the robots!
To celebrate our new communication capabilities we made a brand new gameplay trailer!
Let us know if we missed your language or if you have feedback on the translations! <3
Hello!
It has come to our attention that humans speak more than one language!?
To help you understand the fine nuances of how your robot body will disintegrate in the arena, we have decided to translate our communications.
And we want your feedback!
So far we have translated:
Since we normally only speak in binary, we need some human opinions on whether things sound right!
You can try the translated version of the game by enabling the experimental branch: http://clonedroneinthedangerzone.com/experimental
If you see something odd, please deliver your feedback using this handy form: https://forms.gle/NPz1jVuBh5kKwW5H7
To start with we’re going to translate everything into the following languages:
Did we miss your favorite language? Let us know.
Once we’ve gathered some initial feedback, we’ll move ahead with translating the large amount of excellent commentary in the game. For most languages the game will only support subtitles for the spoken words.
Until then, please try Chapter 1 in your human language and use the feedback form to let us know of any issues!
Chapter 4 is released! You can access it by downloading the Steam version of the game. To access your Steam key, go here: https://itch.io/docs/buying/already-bought
A new build is now live that fixes a variety of bugs!
Some highlights include:
Achievement progress is no longer counted on Workshop maps. We saw some levels pop up that pretty much gave you achievements for doing nothing, which goes against the spirit of Achieving things.
Thanks to everyone for reporting bugs. 🙂 If you encounter a bug or a crash, emailing bugs@doborog.com is a great way to let us know about it
What are you doing on Tuesday, human?
We're launching the next big update to the game, adding Emotes, Achievements, Co-op Challenges and more!
Dance like a robot, flap your arms like a bird or enquire about the location of water like a human, the moment is fast approaching when all these things will be possible!
See you then! :)
Hello human!
Are you having a good consciousness cycle? Drinking enough water? We have news!
Soon you will be able to communicate with other humans, via the brand new Emote System. Perform provocative dances, exchange greetings, or inquire about the location of water – We have got you covered!
We are expanding the achievements in the game in a big way. From smaller things like killing robots in a certain way, to bigger things like beating Story Mode on INSANE, we’re adding a ton of achievements!
In addition to giving you normal Steam Achievements, the new achievements will also play a big role in unlocking Emotes. We were originally going to build this at a later date, but the synergy with Emotes was too hard to resist! 🙂
Do you find the Challenges of the game… challenging? Bring your friends! In addition to the original single player challenges we’re adding some brand new co-op exclusive ones.
Another big focus for this update is responding to your feedback on co-op:
When is all this coming?? Soon!™
In the meantime, you can always go poke Erik LIVE to see what’s in progress, and let us know your best ideas for new Achievements!
What is your status, human? Let us tell you of our status!
We just pushed a small update that fixed a few things:
Let us know if you find any other bugs!
Chapter 4 added a ton of new features, so before we move on we want to make sure they get a chance to spread to other parts of the game!
We’re putting together a fun little update that will:
Look for it in the next 2-3 weeks!
Wouldn’t it be cool if you could fight robots with your friends? We think so too, which is why we’re tackling co-op as the next major update to the game!!!
What do you want out of a co-op experience? Is hugging important? Let us know!
Happy Friday!
After a fun morning of playing your workshop levels I'm happy to announce that we have 4 gems temporarily joining the official Last Bot Standing rotation!
Hidden Temple of the Cursed Canyon (by BinaryPanic8347)
This amazing looking level has an even more amazing Final Zone.
Survive until the end, and you may encounter... THE BEAST!
Roof Top (by Dr.Peppermint)
Why fight in buildings when you can fight ON them? Roof Top delivers a fun experience for all city loving humans.
The Maze Below (by ScienceBoy999)
A tight design delivering fun battles with a high tempo! The Maze Below impressed us with its gameplay.
LBS-Fireworks (by Baryonyx)
Turn into garbage and experience Fireworks! The sloped design of this level felt simple and surprisingly fresh.
Thanks to everyone who submitted levels and participated in the playtest!
We’re working hard on Chapter 4! Here is another little preview of what we’re doing.
Warning: Mild spoilers below.
Do you enjoy DRAMA??? Prepare for a very dramatic story chapter, built on the foundations of our brand new Animation System. When Chapter 4 launches you’ll be able to create animations directly in the Level Editor.
A fun thing we’re exploring is the ability to transfer your mind into whoever killed you. This will be a thing both in Chapter 4, as well as in a brand new Endless Challenge.
Initial testing suggests this is really fun! 😀
Do you love making levels? We’re holding another playtest session for Last Bot Standing levels on Feb 15th, 10am PST. No theme this time so make whatever you want!
The most awesome levels will be added to the main level pool. Don’t forget to peek at our awesome guide for making fun levels!
We’re aiming to release it in March sometime. 🙂 More info when we know more!
We’re currently hard at work on Chapter 4! Here’s a little peek at where things are at. 🙂
The game gets its third melee weapon: The Spear!
Paired with a shield, it focuses on precise stabs with a solid defensive barrier. Here is what happens if you put it in the hands of some high level enemy bots:
Note: All spear, shield and enemy models are temporary placeholders.
Gary has been exploring what the hallways of the robot Battlecruiser might look like!
Below are some high definition mockups that will likely mutate and change as we figure out how to break them down into reusable level elements:
Chapter 4 is going to be pretty. 😀
Most of the work still lies ahead of us. We’re still in the planning and exploration stages, but we’ll likely move on to level design in January and start putting the chapter together!
It’s too early to tell exactly when this thing launches, but we’re aiming for sometime around February / March.
In the mean time, join us tomorrow as we play test Metal Christmas levels from the workshop. And watch for a mini-update in the next couple of weeks related to controller support and server regions!
The second Last Bot Standing playtest is over, bringing us six fresh new levels! Thanks to everyone who participated!
Next event is Saturday Dec 15th with the theme Metal Christmas!
Here is why these levels were a blast to play, and are now available:
Simple and fun! Everybody liked this level when we played it. Jump around in a kitchen, like a little ant with a giant laser sword trying to kill the other ants instead of collaborating on whatever it is ants do with them!
Yay! What a fun level! With some beautiful toys and playful upgrade drop scenarios, the Kid Zone made us feel childlike joy. :)
The light shines brightly in space! Really cool level with a lot of vertical jump pad action.
Probably the level with the most innovative mechanics and theme of everything we played! Experience the chaos of spawning in a prison full of murderous robots. If you survive the first few seconds the rest of the level is also really neat!
Don't smelt, little human! Running around this level is a ton of fun. The upgrade drops had some really unique configurations, giving this level a good balance between danger from hazards and your fellow contestants.
Epic and beautiful, this level lets you die inside a glorious cathedral. Inspiring use of light and shadow!
These levels were very close to being included, and deserve to be mentioned:
Thanks everyone for making such cool levels and participating in the event!
These playtest events have been a ton of fun, so we're gonna keep doing them!
The next theme is: Metal Christmas! We want to see levels that capture that holiday spirit of cutting up your festive friends, and letting their robot bodies rain down upon you like snow!
Join us on Saturday Dec 15th, at 10am PST!
And just so there is no confusion, we are currently working on Story Mode Chapter 4. Keep your eyes out for some early weapon exploration footage in an upcoming blog post! :)
Thanks everyone who participated in our first Workshop Playtest event! We played through a whooping 39 levels, and had a ton of fun!
Here are the 9 levels that will be added to the official Last Bot Standing rotation until the next playtest:
Hollowedcommander creates a visually striking experience in the darkness of the abyss! Don’t step across the red lines!
Calling all pirates! Just kidding, pirates can’t play multiplayer, or access this super fun level. 🙂 When the cannons fired I knew we needed to add it.
The atmosphere of Mother Tree is really cool! You can practically feel the damp fog condensing on your metal face as you jump across its branches.
It may look simple, but as soon as we tried it everyone had a ton of fun! Cleverly framed upgrade drops make this level really entertaining.
Like a hall of mirrors that suddenly appears in an action film, the hall of laser tag takes you on a trip! The view from the upgrade boxes is great!
A cozy valley full of trees and ramps! Jumping among the foliage is a lot of fun.
Experience the intense blue of the Space Arena! A great place to die!
Space Royale offers a cool take on the interior of a space ship! A good warmup for Chapter 4. 🙂
There was something really cool about this level. The wheel feels solid and the fight for upgrade drops is fun!
There are of course a ton of other cool levels in the workshop that we didn’t add this time around. You can find them under the Last Bot Standing tag!
We’re doing this again!!! Next playtest takes place Fri Nov 30 at 10am PST
Theme: Glorious Light
We want to see glorious levels, that shine with light!
What exactly that means is up to you. 🙂
Participate simply by uploading your Last Bot Standing level to the workshop, and don’t forget to check out our helpful guide if you haven’t yet!
We are about to try something new!
Tomorrow we’ll be holding a live play test of the coolest looking Last Bot Standing levels in the workshop!
Based on your feedback we’ll then add the very strongest levels to the game for a limited time.
Playtest time: 10am PST – Saturday Nov 17
Here’s how to participate:
Wondering how to make a great level? Check out our new guide! It has a wealth of information for all skill levels!
What do you think makes for a great Last Bot Standing level? Let us know in the comments! 🙂
We just fixed a bunch of bugs:
We’re hard at work on the next big update, but these issues were bad enough to warrant a little hotfix.
Happy Wednesday!
Congratulations human, you can now read our privacy policy!
Find out what data we collect and what we do with it. Your privacy is important to us, and so is complying with the new European legislation (GDPR) going into effect on May 25!
What else is new? Well, we are hard at work on the next big multiplayer feature. In addition we’re also looking into a few high priority bugs floating around and aim to deploy a fix for them early next week.
More info soon! <3
Multiplayer is alive! Soon the sword robots of the arena will be filled with human minds like yours.
Our plans for multiplayer are far-reaching, but we’re kicking it off with 1v1 Duels. Two humans pick upgrades, then fight! Whoever runs out of clones first loses.
We’re aiming to launch this to the world around late February / early March UPDATE: Now targeting releasing in April, but you can try it out on our development multiplayer branch now! (More details)
Want to help test multiplayer? We’re giving everyone access to the in-development version.
Right now it’s a super-buggy, broken experience with terrible usability. Nevertheless you can still try it! 🙂
Multiplayer is going to grow and expand a lot over the coming months! Here are some of the things we’re going to be looking at:
Note: The above items are not in order, and might change drastically. We’ll make specific decisions as we learn what multiplayer is like and see what people love or hate about it.
Let us know what you would most like to see in the comments!
Ever since the game launched, multiplayer has been the number one suggestion.
In terms of adding value to the game, few features could have a larger impact! It’s a big undertaking for our tiny team, but we’ve decided that it’s finally time to tackle it!
We’ve never launched a realtime multiplayer game before, so we’re going to fix that! 🙂
Who will be the next Santa Claus? The answer will be written in the snow with red letters!
We’re aiming to release the prototype before Christmas, but if you wanna try it sooner check out Erik’s twitch streams or the discord server.
Once we start building multiplayer in Clone Drone we’ll probably start with a simple PvP experience, and launch it as soon as it’s in a good state!
After that there are many options: Co-op, team deathmatch, ranked ladder, weird Twitch integrations. We haven’t decided exactly what multiplayer in Clone Drone will look like.
What kind of gameplay would you be most excited to see? Let us know in the comments!
Hello!
Oh no, perhaps we've introduced some sort of bug!
Were you playing the inferno challenge previously or were you starting it from level 1?
Do you get an error message when it crashes? If you email a screenshot to support@doborog.com we can help figure out what's going on.
Sorry for the inconvenience!
/Erik
Hello humans!
Many of you expressed that although the Chapter 3 update was a lot of fun, it was over too quickly. This update builds on the new mechanics introduced in last update and adds a slew of new content for you to play with!
All levels in chapter 1 & 2 have been updated with new maps. We’ve mostly kept the ideas of the existing maps, but re-built them using the level editor to up their quality.
We’ve also introduced Difficulty Settings!
If you’ve found Story Mode too easy try playing on Hard or Insane. The only difference is in what enemies appear on the levels.
Chapter 3 also supports the new difficulty levels.
Do you wish every enemy in the game HAD ARMOR?? Try the Endless Armor Challenge!
We’ve also added a bunch of armored enemies to normal Endless Mode.
Clearly the game needs a new jetpack bot wielding a fire sword. !spawn bjetpack Kappa Speaking of fire, we’ve made it spread faster! The slow creeping spread didn’t feel good to get killed by. This feedback first surfaced in this forum thread. Thanks guys!
We also fixed a ton of bugs. Let us know if you find more at bugs@doborog.com!
Erik and Brian will be hanging out at TwitchCon this week. Look forward to some all day streams this weekend of random people trying Twitch Mode.
Lots of great ideas here! Thanks for all the inspiration. :)
The molten metal idea is interesting. Would be fun to play more with ways of deforming the characters in real time that is not exclusively about destroying them. Maybe it slows down the movement while attached? Could see a variant of this being ice that freezes the character for a short while, then melts off.
Did you know that we are hard at work on the next installment of Story Mode??
Chapter 3 is slowly taking shape, and we finally have a few images to show you!
We’re aiming to launch the update in mid-September!

We’re aiming to launch the update in mid-September.
It’s taking a bit longer than many of our smaller updates have, in part because we want to create something super cool, but also because Erik (that’s me) has a new side project:
(from https://www.twitch.tv/doborog)
We’re having a lot of fun building this update. 🙂
Since that relies on Steam workshop it is not available in the itch version.
