You can see my full post here, but I'll post the specific changes here as well without all the extra details!
Visual Updates
- New main menu visuals, this is just a copy of the actual in game setup.
- New in game visuals, the chess board and table are now surrounded by an actual room with lighting. You can't see a ton from in the game, but you can see the full surroundings in the main menu. The lighting mechanism has also been changed to give a more dynamic and natural lighting to the board and pieces.
Audio updates
- Added sounds to the UI for both hovering and clicking on buttons.
- Cards now have sounds for when you draw, shuffle, or hover over them.
- Pieces and Squares also have sounds when hovered and can be selected now as well. The sounds are slightly different to help distinguish them. I'm looking to continue improving this for accessibility in a future update.
- When you select an object there is now a select sound as well.
- Pieces moving also have a thunk sound when they reach their destination.
Gameplay Updates
- You can now discard cards and also play a card in a single turn. Discarding used to end your turn, but it does not do so any more.
- Added the ability to end your turn without doing anything. You can now choose to just do nothing if you desire. This is in combination with the discarding change so you have to now explicitly end your turn.
- The starting deck has been improved! Before is was randomly build (IE pick 52 random cards), but this lead to some not awesome decks which made the game not as enjoyable (and also tripped up the bot a lot). Now instead the deck has a set amount of each card. I'm hoping this makes it more enjoyable as the 52 card card was split proportionally to the pieces on the board. I'm still working on a future update that allows you to build your own.
- 26 Pawn cards
- 6 Bishop cards
- 6 Knight cards
- 6 Rook cards
- 4 Queen cards
- 4 King cards
