Achievement system

I read the discussion listed above, but it seems like achievements aren’t possible because some games spam them all over the place. So here is what I’m proposing instead:

  • Game developers can complete an application process where they describe their intended achievements and why they want to use them
  • They can then set up all the achievements they want on their game settings page (maybe with a limit on how many achievements can be active)
  • They can then call itch’s server-side API to unlock and query achievements
  • If they abuse the achievement system (by spamming or making “free achievement” games) access to the achievement API can be revoked by itch mods

This concept isn’t fool-proof, but at least it fixes the spamming issue if we would ever get an achievement system over here on itch :)
