Welcome to another Week Sauce game jam! We just announced our theme for February. We still don't have any budget for FX in our announcements, so just imagine the following text rolling in Star Wars style, while appropriate music plays (I am partial to the Terminator 2 soundtrack myself).

The world is shifting, tensions are rising, and history is being rewritten as we speak. In times like these, when the air crackles with energy and defiance, there’s only one thing to do…

🔥 This month’s theme is: 🔥

✊ Resistance!

Whether you’re standing up against tyranny, hacking the system, leading a ragtag rebellion, or just resisting the urge to check your notifications every five minutes, this jam is all about the struggle, the fight, and the spirit of pushing back.

But resistance isn’t just about politics and protests. It’s about:

  • ⚡ Electrical resistance—When the current wants to flow one way, but you say, "Not today!" (or at least not at full voltage).
  • 🏃‍♂️ Going against the flow—Whether you’re a lone salmon swimming upstream, a contrarian in a world of yes-men, or an NPC in a game where everyone else walks in the same direction.
  • 🛞 Friction and physics—From skidding tires to objects stubbornly refusing to move unless acted upon by an outside force.
  • 🛡️ Damage resistance—Are you immune to fire? Resistant to poison? Do words bounce off you like rubber and stick to others like glue?
  • 🧠 Personal resistance—Maybe your game is about resisting temptation, standing by your beliefs, or simply refusing to wake up on time.

So rally your creativity, fortify your game engines, and prepare for a month of defiant innovation. Will you lead the revolution, sabotage from the shadows, or just build a tower defense game where you hold the line against endless waves of bureaucracy? The choice is yours.

The Resistance starts now. Well… February 1, you get the gist.

About Week Sauce

What's Week Sauce anyway? It is a jam for people that want to participate on game jams but cannot commit to strict dates or enjoy being judged. It is a very chill, non-ranked jam, that doesn't have a lot of requirements. You only have to make a game (of any type, tabletop games included) in 7 days, and then publish it. More importantly, you don't need to make it in 7 consecutive days; you can decide what days work for you. We also don't care if it turns out to be 8 or 10 days instead of 7. We don’t even care how you define what “a day” of work on your game is. Week Sauce is not even a monthly jam (we only change the theme every month), so you can really spread those 7 or so days as much as you need, and we will still accept your entry!

You can work in any engines or programming languages, alone or with a team, and even the theme is completely optional. The only important thing here is to support you on developing and posting a very minimal game, from start to finish. It is a very VERY chill jam that hopefully helps you improve your game-making skills or break free of a creative rut.

You can join whether you are new to game development and looking for a no-pressure environment and some help to start, or you just have a lot going on in your life and need a more flexible schedule. Although publishing a game on itch.io is not a requirement, we have been hosting jams here every month, and almost all our submissions have been through itch.io. So…

Cheers!
