How to get FreeRider to run on Linux Mint?

Any ideas on how to make it run on Linux Mint 17.3? I have it set to allow executing as a program, but I just get a black window momentarily as it tries to open.

HP dual dual core computer, 64 bit. I have an older ATI Radeon X300 graphics card. I am using the Mint video drivers at the moment, because I find they actually work better for running videos, etc. I don't have any other games on this machine.

Should have tried the demo before buying it I guess!

After some more fooling around, I discovered that FreeRider works fine on identical computer with Linux Mint 17.3, but with an NVidia graphics card. Perhaps if I can get the legacy ATI drivers working with the Radeon card, it might work as well.

I'm using AMD Radeon Software Crimson Edition 15.12 Proprietary Linux Graphics Driver on a Ubuntu Linux 14.04 LTS 64-bit and it works perfectly. HERE is the link to the drivers.

Thanks, but that driver does not support the Radeon HD5000/X300 that I have. AMD has stopped supporting these old ATI boards it seems. There is a work-around for W10 (I have dual boot), but I haven't found anyway in Linux so far. The Wiki says I'm out of luck.
