Possible return of installation bug from 2018

Edit - copied from more recent post below: I switched to a different ISP recently, and tried installing itch again. This time I had no trouble. And yes, the same anti-virus software was still turned on at the time.

My only guess as to what happened before was that my previous ISP was having trouble with the traffic redirecting during that phase of installation. So if anyone else reading this later is having similar trouble, consider taking your pc/device elsewhere to install itch.

Original post: I'm trying to download the Itch desktop app on Windows 10, but "finalizing installation" keeps freezing at 6 mb. A google search revealed someone else having the same problem last year. https://github.com/itchio/itch/issues/2125 Has this same bug been reintroduced into the app?

Before anyone asks, I downloaded the installer from https://itch.io/app . And yes, I'm using antivirus. Specifically, Avast Free Antivirus, and Malwarebytes premium trial. But neither of them have said anything about blocking this, and they always notifies me of the least little thing, even when I'd rather they didn't. And I also checked their activity/notification logs to see if I did miss something.

No response? Could somebody please, at the very least, tell me where I can find previous versions of the installer, so I can see if one of them works better?

I've tried again, after adding exceptions to my antivirus software. But the problem persists. Nearly a week and still no response? Not even to my request for a different version of the installer? Am I missing something in an faq? If so, I would prefer someone pointing it out and laughing in my face over this silence.

Hello, sorry we didn't see your post sooner. I'm leaving a response here in case anyone else comes across this topic, or you're still having issues.

Turn off your virus scanner then try again. Adding an exception to your scanner is not enough since it's easy to miss adding rules to certain paths, or to misunderstand how the virus scanner exception options work. We won't be providing support for installation issues until the person having the issue has confirmed they tried without their virus scanner running. Virus scanners are built to block software that installs other software by default, then let specific programs through by a white-list. Generally the only thing we can do is tell the virus scanner company that they need to add our app to the white-list.

I've added a note about this to the community rules.

Thanks for understanding

Thank you for responding. I had given up on getting a response, and forgot about this thread. So I failed to update when my problem was finally resolved.
