I was also the Head Artist for six months for a top-down JRPG called Immortal Doctrine. There, you can see some of the work I did on the project through my portfolio. 

Before that, I had been consistently working on freelance commissions for a year.

Rates:

$15-$25/hr, depending on the work I'd be doing and the commute time.
