Hi, just wanted to say, first off: LOVE this game. I really like the amount of forageables you've put in, I've never seen a game in this genre throw so many cool things out into the world to collect right off the bat. Graphics are also super pretty, like holy cow the Map screen is gorgeous.

I would like to make a note that as of right now, it seems like all the quests and buildings require quite a bit of mining, maybe TOO much? Or maybe the cost of building with smelted bars is too high atm?
Once I saw I needed a LOT of bronze bars for just about every quest, I've started mining like crazy, but I feel like ive been spending all of my time/energy in there just to build one thing. I've upgraded my pick axe but mining one iron node takes out like half my energy bar.

Other than that, seriously, this game is precious and so fun to explore! Keep it up!

Hey there I’m glad you’re enjoying it so far. As for mining you may be right. You’ll likely find that some parts of the game are a little unbalanced in terms of what you have to do. I hear fishing is pretty OP right now too. Thanks for your input, I’ve noted it down. Balancing out tasks, sell prices, and quest requirements is a bit of a constant battle for me. There will likely be iterations in the future for these sorts of things. It may at some point require less ore to make a bar, or quest objectives may change to add more variety.

I don’t want the game to be a grind, but striking that balance between grind and extremely quick and easy is proving to be a bit difficult. It’s likely too that as you play more and level up skills and tools things will get a lot easier for you. In any case don’t worry too much, I don’t think you are alone in your opinions. At some point when I get some time I’ll be looking into these things and more. Thanks again for your input, it’s very appreciated. Hope you have fun (and don’t run into too many bugs).

Maybe I'm just missing it, but I can't quite figure out how to mine. I've took the pickax and found stone and iron ore and copper and even gold. But I have yet to find any coal and a wiki page said to mine in the northern side of Ardor Foothills. But everything there says its not implemented into the game yet. Can I get some advice on how to mine for coal?

Do you perhaps have an old version of the game? Because coal should exist from the very beginning in cave 1 and in most of the other caves. If you have the newest version then maybe it's a bug.

I actually just found it. I was missing the entrance. The map is a little wonky to navigate

I love this game, too, but I agree the mining is a slog. Because I knew there was so much mining, I decided to work on things to make mining easier first (upgrade my pickaxe, focus on repairing the bridge north of my house to make it easier to get to the mines), but that bridge, one of the simplest things to build, takes 20 iron bars. Each iron bar takes 5 iron ores. That's 100 iron ores. Those iron ores are on the 20th level and down in the mine. It takes forever to run around to get down there. There are only 3 or 4 iron deposits per level max, and you only get 2 or 3 iron ore per deposit, and even with my upgraded pickaxe, each deposit takes 4 units of energy to mine. I appreciate that you've simplified getting out of the mine, but it just isn't fun to spend all my game time on mining. I'm really considering whether it's worth continuing to play if even the easiest structure takes so much work.

There is a mine cart to the left before the entrance to level 1 in the mine. The cart will take you down to level 20 in a click if you have visited that level before.

(Just learned this a few days ago myself)

Oh, fantastic! That makes a huge difference, thanks!

Whoa. I feel like that cart thing needs to be explained somewhere—like a sign or cutscene or something. Mining is rough... that info would help a lot.

I agree with you there.  :) I had forced myself down to lvl 80 many times to mine ore before i found out.
