Yes, it's already possible:

 Simply drag and drop a map from the asset panel to the map editor.
Tabs should appear at the top of the map editor:

Tabs can be reordered, and removed by dragging them.

You're the man! Lots of these great features everywhere, I'm just trying to find them all.
