Initial attempts to put a shield in the offhand (L) or main hand (R) fail, but I can use a dagger in either... Axe and knife is a thing, right? :)
It might have been one of the cases where you try to equip items of an inappropriate size. The next alpha release will clearly indicate such circumstances (both with the tooltip you see and an item marker in the inventory).
No worries. I am trying to play at least one game a day and then reporting back as appropriate. Keep up the good work!
In the upcoming alpha 0.1.1 this should be fixed (or clearly explain to you why a combination does not work).
