Hi, I am trying to play this game on my Mac laptop. When I download the game it says that the application cannot be opened. What should I do? I apologize if this is a stupid question, I'm new to the world of video games

My apologies that you aren't able to play the game. I am going to assume all three of you are running Catalina?
We recently went through notarization (a process Apple enforces on their latest OS for security concerns) though it seems to not be functioning and still blocking the game from being opened. We are currently looking into the issue, though it may take some time to figure out why the notarization process didn't work.

Hi. I had the same issue with running the game on Catalina. I found a workaround based on a recommendation for another game that has the same issue that can be found here https://itch.io/t/517191/macos-catalina-compatibility.
For me, double-clicking the app gave the error, "The application "morticianstale.app" can't be opened." So I had to open a terminal window, go to the folder containing morticianstale.app, type "cd morticianstale.app/Contents/MacOS", then "chmod +x morticianstale". Then when I tried to open it in the Finder again, I had to update my security preferences, but I am now able to run it.
