Amy Salomon - Devlog 2 - Pitching a Game

Pitching a concept to a group of people can be an anxiety inducing experience. Having others judge your project and ideas against their ideas and the ideas of others is a bit of a scary prospect. However, here are a few things me and my team did to make it easier.

First: I prepared a script. Making a script to follow while I present ensures that, not only will I be able to say everything I want to say, but also that I won't get lost, or stutter on thinking of what to say next. This helped me a lot.

Second: We got into a Discord call. Having to present through a screen share online is a lot easier than doing it in person. Sometimes, standing in front of a group of people can make me really anxious. However, being able to prepare everything on my computer and being able to present it from the comfort of my home office made it a lot easier.

Third: Due consideration from every team member for every project was important. It isn't fair if your team writes off your idea from the get go, and proceeds to ignore it. I'm very glad my team went into depth with each idea, considering what we all wanted to do and our strengths as team members to decide on what we were going to move forward with. This was probably the most important aspect of considering our pitches.

Hello Amy. I totally agree with you. I am also a person that gets anxiety when presenting in front of a live audience in person and prefers to do online presentations to avoid freezing up and stuttering. I read my presentation scripts in online presentations during Year 1 since everything was online due to Covid reasons lol.  When it comes to sharing stuff through Discord, however, it does not give me too much anxiety since I am already familiarized with the people I am working with. Although yes if you have to speak with people you don't know whatsoever, it can be a bit weird at the beginning given you don't exactly know how  the conversation will start and go. I experienced all of this in both design weeks of Year 1, when we all spoke through Discord without knowing each other. And finally, I agree that it is fair to give everyone a chance to share their ideas because from there you can find out about everyone's skills and how everyone can help each other out to make the final product.
