During the past six weeks, we were all at hard work creating the physical production of the game. I am the narrative and sound designer on the team, and I had a great time at developing and making the sounds for the game. For the most part, we are done with making the sounds and coming up with the soundtracks. I might consider making more if we want to add cranking sounds to the gears, and explosions depending on if we want to have some parts of the robot break in the minigames we are preparing during reading week. But as of now we have enough sounds and a great soundtrack for both the main menu and the levels.
After I had finished making music and sound effects with Yanfei, I took on the responsibility of making the narrative. With all the feedback, we have been getting from our play testers, the majority of them said that they were confused as to how to start playing the game as there was no clear indication of what the winning objective is. This left me with making a manual with writing clear instructions in it as to how the player will play the game and what they can expect from it as they play it. Similar to the Proof of Concept we finished last semester, I decided to have the game start off by having a cutscene play with the robot explaining to the player how stuff inside the factory works and what to do as they interact with boxes coming across from the conveyors.
In the image up here, I have made a script for the dialogue the robot will say at the beginning of the cutscene. Additionally, I have made lines for a PA announcer to explain what the process of each day will be like. Our programmer, Todd, will be in charge of implementing this dialogue into the game.
Overall, I’m not too satisfied with the current narrative I have set up for the moment after finssihng all the SFX and music, but I’m confident that this will expand and evolve overtime in the next couple of weeks.
Thanks for reading my devlog!
