Devlog 4 - Post-production

I can’t believe our production window has come to an end. Before I get into the details of what I did, I must give a big shout out to our game designers; Todd and Jamie, for staying up until 6am to finish polishing up our project. It wouldn’t have been displayed as great as we did in the showcase just today. I’m also glad that they made good use of the narrative and sounds that I came up with. They used it to make the tutorial that we have been talking about in many of our meetings.

Main Role

But with that being said, we all stuck with our original roles since the beginning of the first semester. I stayed with my role of coming up with the narrative. I told the player where they will be working and what their quota of every day is, How the game is played and how everyday working in the factory is like.

In addition, after I had finished coming up with all the narrative. I decided to continue helping my team by moving on to something else. I decided to put myself in charge of making sounds for our game. Such as the bell sound for when the player inserts the box into the right conveyor, and a buzzer sound when they insert a wrong box. I put myself in charge of this as Yanfei, our sound designer was busy with work from other classes and I didn’t want us to fall severely behind.

Working with the Team

We didn’t get in touch as often as we though we would, which is what slowed our process of getting sprints done on time. On Jira, we would write down sprints such as getting certain assets done for x day, and having sounds implemented by y day but we rarely met them. We have been getting our tasks done, just not as fast as we thought we would, which is why we had to rush through some last-minute tasks and therefore stood up until late to get all those sprints done.

Regardless though, our team is proud of what we have done and accomplished. We have also taken some valuable lessons when it comes to doing team projects again like this in the future. We have yet to decide if we want to continue working on this game after the semester comes to a close but for now, we are very proud of the final product we managed to hand in by the deadline. It will also come as a great addition to our portfolios.

Thanks for reading my final devlog :)
