I really like the theme and aesthetic of this game you guys are working on!! I think I can definitely agree the aiming could use slight improvements, but based on playtests and seeing your guys presentation I feel like this game is coming together quite nicely!! Great work so far!!!
I found the game a bit difficult to play at first but I eventually got the hang of it. The powerups definitely helped lol. I would say that the aim is a bit inaccurate? I had my mouse on the target but the shots would still be off and sometimes the player had a hard time rotating correctly. I also feel like the shots from the enemy are a little big considering the player doesn't have much room to move around. It would also be nice if the game didn't close once you lose. But I really like the game overall and the art direction is awesome!
The games presentation and theming is very nice! The aiming, however, did feel inconsistent. Sometimes the player character would not aim and shoot where my mouse would be. The second boss was also a major difficulty jump, and I didn't realize the game would have to be quit whenever you got a game over! I felt that the lobster sentries the lobster queen placed had maybe a bit too much health? The second stage also had some weird audio bugs, where all audio would cut out completely. Other than those issues, the game was fun to play and I am excited to play the full
I like the theme of the game and I like the concept that y'all went for a whole lot! It would be awesome to see this fleshed out with a full story and upgrades later on after the assignment!
I feel like its a good balance of difficulty, sometimes you can get unlucky with all shrimps but other than that its fairly balanced.
How hard is the kraken boss?
Good for the first boss, took 3 tried before I could defeat it.
How hard is the crab/lobster boss?
I couldn't beat that one but i can tell its definitely harder than the kraken
Do the controls need improvement?
WASD was good, sometimes the aim gets desynced with the cursor and does fire where I am pointing.
Are there any aspects or enemies that are annoying to the point of ruining your experience? Just the aim not being accurate or hard to see the cursor, a custom cursor like a target to know where you are shooting could be good
This game is impressively polished, what with the art, the number of enemies, the multiple islands and the bosses. I really like the aesthetic of the game. The power ups are nice: they feel satisfying to collect and actually make the gameplay more enjoyable.
I think for the most part the difficulty is not too hard and not too easy. Each individual stage is not hard, but making it to the boss fight with enough health to survive is a challenge. The kraken is not that hard to beat, but I haven’t been able to beat the crab yet. There is a lot of replay value, trying to take down the bosses.
As for controls, it seems there are times when the projectiles don’t go to where the cursor is, specifically on the right side of the map at some points.
The lunging birds sometimes feel a little uninteractive, but besides that I like all the other enemies.
I like how different the 2 islands look. I even prefer the look of the second island, which feels like a reward for making it out of the first.
Some levels were easier than others because of the random spawn rates, but overall, they're fairly balanced.
How hard is the kraken boss?
Not too difficult, felt perfect for a first boss
How hard is the crab/lobster boss?
It was surprisingly pretty difficult, it got easier after getting used to the controls but it took me quite a few tries to actually defeat it.
Do the controls need improvement?
At times, I had difficulty aiming, maybe my cursor was too far out of range for the controller to register where I was firing, but I did have some issues with that. Regular movement with WASD was pretty seamless
Are there any aspects or enemies that are annoying to the point of ruining your experience?
Just the crab boss being overly difficult/harder to navigate. Otherwise, I loved the artwork and the normal levels! The Kraken was fun to work with.
How hard is the game in general? Overall the regular levels are very easy. Some levels didnt even spawn a bird or shrimp which made the level very easy as the eel and coral dont move their attacks and make it where you can stand still and kill them. Maybe making the coral and eels rotate in a circle so their attacks move all around the map could definitely add to the difficulty.
How hard is the kraken boss? Kraken boss seemed good difficulty for being the first boss. Wasnt hard, but got the player more used to movement.
How hard is the crab/lobster boss? The crab/lobster boss was maybe too difficult. I killed the crab no issue, but upon death it was doing a move and that move stayed on the map which may have been the reason it was difficult as I had to keep running over it to kill the little lobsters while fighting the lobster boss and made me die faster. If the crab boss attack didnt stay on the map I believe I would have been able to kill the lobster.
Do the controls need improvement? When I played the game it seemed that it didn't fire exactly in my mouse direction which seemed to only happen on a certain Map. Will attach a picture. I did see it happen on some other maps, but nothing to the extent of the one in the pictures. It is only letting me attach 1 picture, but if you move further right on this map it got even worse.
Are there any aspects or enemies that are annoying to the point of ruining your experience? Not really anything besides the crab boss attack staying on the map. Other than that the gameplay was smooth.
Other: It looked like some maps had vertical lines in the water along with on the map. Also some maps left of the bridge look to be lines too like the bridge used to be there and moved to the right.
The game felt pretty good and the power ups felt like they made a significant bump to your stats. I also experienced a weird issue with the aiming bugging out specifically on the rectangular stage with the rectangular body of water in the middle, in the top right corner. In terms of difficulty I think its in a good spot but please add a way to be sent back to the menu or retry when you lose having to rerun the game each time could be a bit annoying
Whoo this game is rad. I like the art and the level layouts are pretty challenging, also I played a few times (still haven't beaten the squid) and I really like that I say new layouts. I feel like if I had a really choice run I could clear it. I did have some weird issues with aim as my cursor got close to the player character. I would love to see a flash cursor in the final game as I kept losing where I was aiming in the current build.
