Gameplay - Mostly just walking around except for the final chase, but it also all works (albeit only because of post-launch updates if the changelogs are to be believed). I don't really mind the final chase all that much like some did, although the player slowing down when their candy bar gets too low makes one particular ending very frustrating to get. Overall it's nothing outstanding but it's perfectly serviceable. 3
Story - A bit confusing but it comes together well enough with all the endings. I do wish there was a bit more though, and look forward to the promised follow-up. 3
Presentation - The house is put together well, the music fits, and I love the arachne art. The drawn out vomiting sound effect in ending 1 is also excellent. 4
Creativity - While the execution can be confusing, I think the story is pretty creative. 4
Horror - It's very dark and there are some fun elements of psychological horror. 4
Theme - The stone is both present as the core narrative device and very "monkey's paw" in its wish interpretation, and the "candy" also works as a pretty terrible curse. 4
There are some elements that drag it down but it's still a fun time, especially given the shorter time frame it was made in. As mentioned before, I look forward to the follow-up game.
First, I want to thank you for the Pinocchiogoria reference, that was awesome and I never thought I'd see a reference like that hahahaha
My impressions after playing the game:
-the story is pretty bizarre, some scenes really strange and don't make much sense but somehow everything fits and turns the story into a very weird dark horror comedy, and I absolutely love it! Some scenes got me laughing a lot, and John Ruina is such a strange but hilarious character. Arachne is amazing! I love her
-the gameplay certainly is this game's weakest point. I know how disappointing it is to come up with certain mechanics and then realizing they weren't what you were expecting at all. I think this game could have benefited from simpler mechanics.
Regarding the infamous final chase: I'm used to these kind of chases (I've also made some frustrating chases in my games), so I dind't really mind it. But I can see why players migth become really frustrated with it. This is no doubt the weakest point of the game, as final chase scenes are supposed to be the most epic parts of a game and should be kind of enjoyable. But the concept is neat and it shows you have potential
-I'm not fond of games with RTP, but somehow the RTP here works really good, and the custom art also helps
-Music was good, specially the final chase tune
Overall, I have to say, I really liked this, it has a lot of potential, and I really like your humor. Also, if I remember correctly, you made this game in a reaaally short amount of time, so considering how fast you had to work, this is a pretty good result. Looking forward to more of your games!
Hello Axel! Thank you so much for checking out our game! thank you so much for your criticisms!
I found this jam because of you, So I'm not prepared for anything and just know there is just a week left before the jams end haha!
Still a bit lost on what to do exactly in this game to unlock some things but I am a fan of this game's direction on focusing on finding Arachne's Stone. There's a bit of mystery there I hope we get more fun out of in the future in this game.
Thank you so much for checking out! Also yeah some puzzles may be hard, Going to collecting feedback for puzzle design in future projects!
So, it seems I'm not able to give Arachne the Arachnoburger?
From your other comments, it seems you are supposed to interact with the hole in the wall once you have it, but nothing happens and the burger is still in my inventory. Also, if that's the case, then the hole should be marked with the sparkling effect and there should be some textbox when you interact with it, like "I'm waiting for my burger! Bring it to me!"
Also, the chases are way too hard. The first Arachne one could use more of a headstart and the second one in the underground maze... I've played through that one 5 times so far and haven't managed to get through it yet.
It's good that you allow to skip endings you've already seen though. I got two, the Death one and the Police one.
Also, the cracks on the walls aren't set up properly in the tileset, you can walk on them.
Ok, so, I've tried 10 more times and couldn't do it. I've managed to get to the exit a bunch of times, but Arachne just jumps in front of it and you can't get past her without dying. Please make this chase easier for the sake of my sanity! Atleast lower the damage they do or increase the healing from the healing item.
Also, the shortcut to use candy (E) doesn't work.
Ok, so, I got to the part where Arachne starts chasing me. I ran to the front door and tried to open it, then after I dismissed the textbox, the game seemed to be stuck, Arachne was blocking the only way back but didn't attack me.
Noted!, Don't expect that can be buggy with that, going to playtest and patch it in last day of jam, Thank you so much!
